Scotty Profile Clip

TrekToday

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
A new clip from Star Trek into Darkness features Scotty. The short clip, barely over a minute in length, shows some new footage from the film. In the clip, Simon Pegg gives fans insight into the character of Scotty. Like the Scotty of the original series, this Scotty likes a wee bit of alcohol. But [...]

I wonder if that dome is just behind the main impulse engine - not the bridge dome.

EDIT: Just checked a screencap and I think its more likely the 'bridge' dome.

From Day 1 when we found out about the Abrams "super-sized" Enterprise, I had always thought that it have been great for a massive two-level bridge in this new area. A command center more fitting for such a massive starship.

EDIT: Just checked a screencap and I think its more likely the 'bridge' dome.

Just a thought, if you were to do some scaling of this new area in relation to the rest of the ship, it would almost imply that the Enterprise has been somewhat scaled down. - Yes I know it's opening up an old can of worms again.

Though it looks like they just gutted/reworked the bridge set to make this new set.

I noticed in the clip that there appears to be a new two-level area of the Enterprise.

It appears to be the just above the current bridge (taking up the TOS bridge area), and the old "sensor dome" appears just to be an observation dome now.

I'm not so sure. There are multiple corridors extending from it -- at least one behind Kirk that looks very long. I doubt the area shown would fit under the bridge dome... but I suppose that reason hasn't stopped them before.

As someone else pointed out, it would probably make more sense for this to be the dome at the back of the saucer.

that's not the enterprise bridge dome. there were some great hi-res images of the 09 bridge a while back and there's a big ball shaped object that is suspended in the center of the dome with no balcony.

i will see if i can find those shots.

found them.

Compare also the bridge panorama which was on the official site from the time of the first movie:

Whatever we're looking at in the screencaps linked here...

... it's somewhere other than on the bridge - looks to be a larger, more open area.

Liking the Scotty clip, though, and liking Pegg's take on the character more each time I see something new.

It can only be the dome above the bridge. The dome in the bridge set itself does not correspond to the dome on the model. What other transparent domes are there on the nuEnterprise? The one next to the impulse engine is too small. It can only be the transparent dome ontop of the saucer section IMO

I'm with those that say it's not the bridge.
It just doesn't fit with what we've seen of it and especially with that large corridor behind Kirk.

Some size comparisons:

Here we see the bridge is on the bottom level of the dome structure, at the very front of the deck.

Here's how the bridge filled the entire dome on the much smaller refitted Enterprise seen in the classic movies.

Here's a shot from the "Under Construction" teaser from 2008, showing the two decks above the bridge.

The look on Kirk's face when Scotty calls him, "James Tiberius Perfect Hair," is perfect. From all the clips, he seems to really have Kirk down even better than he did in the first movie. There are just enough hints of Shatner's Kirk dropped around (like in the Scotty clip in this thread and the Marcus clip in another thread) to make one grin and go, "Yep. That's the Kirk we've always known." Man, did they get lucky casting Pine.

Now that I think about it some more, I'm beginning to lean toward the dome above the bridge. They've already established the bridge is three or so decks down. And the corridor behind Kirk probably isn't as long as it seems (wide-angle lens). It would fit in the short segment just under the dome, ending at the vertical slats / windows (seen for example here: http://www.ncc1701shipyard.com/images/highres/burning.jpg )

So, I'm going with "above bridge" dome. Which makes the Enterprise about 350m long. :mallory:
