I figured now that the offseason is finally over, we can have a regular thread for the season. I may write more tomorrow, but I just watched the Panthers game and they looked great tonight. Looking forward to the Sharks game tomorrow.
I know it's game one and they were playing Montreal, but I was impressed by Toronto's defensive play. I think I saw them block more shots in the game then I did all of last season. The building blocks are there with good play by Kadri, Kostka, Scrivens, and Komarov. A strong game all around.
So it only took one period of Edmonton being shell-shocked for the analysts to revive the "Roberto Luongo could go here" diatribe. Please make it stop!
Sharks are 3-0 and Patrick Marleau is on fire. I didn't see that happening last week, but a good start to the truncated season. It's just so great having hockey back. Looking forward to the weekend's worth of games.
Well it looks like Jason Spezza will be out for a minimum of two months after he undergoes surgery for a herniated disc on Friday. Let's hope Anderson keeps playing the way he has.
Crap X 2, in my pool I lost Jofrey Lupul to a broken arm, and now I find out I've lost Jason Spezza to a herniated disc injury. And the trading doesn't open until Sunday, but any points my new pick gets won't take place until the following Sunday. So much for being tied for 126th out of 155 players, One group (the open one) I can take any one not in the other nine groups, I'm stuck between Zack Kassian or Damien Brunner, from Spezz'a group I have to choose between the four remaining players, who are 1)Eric Staal 2)Nick Backstrom 3)Martin St. Louis 4)Brad Richards
I've very torn so far this season with the Leafs. We're in no way Stanley Cup contenders, but they have been competitive in a lot of games this year. When they move the puck and use their speed, they are a good team. But as soon as that is stifled, it's the same old Leafs.
I see the Islanders fans were keeping it classy when they applauded Crosby taking a puck in the face.
Blackhawks look outstanding. I've been trying to watch more Predators games this year, but they're usually on so damn late. It's hard to stay up.
Well the injuries just keep piling up for the Senators. Erik Karlsson is out indefinitely with a lacerated Achilles' tendon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyfTzunzrUk I don't think it was intentional, but people are going to scream it was because it's Matt Cooke.
Evander Kane claims social media attacks are because of racism http://www.cbc.ca/sports/story/2013...-claims-racism-behind-criticism-winnipeg.html Seriously?
Normally I'd shrug this kind of play off as an accident, and it probably was, but with Matt Cooke's involvement it kind of makes you wonder.
There's an argument to be made that, even if it wasn't intentional, it was certainly extremely reckless. By the time you get to the NHL, you should know how to control your body so as not to cause great harm. I'm not sure I entirely agree with the argument, but it's a way to apportion responsibility without holding a player's past against them.
Yeah, I'm not really sure why he needed to get his leg up the way I did to take Karlsson into the boards.
