This is the way I see this whole Abrams brouhaha:

The tomboyish Star Trek has always considered working class J.J. Abrams her best friend. But when J.J. asks out the most popular girl in school, Star Wars, Star Trek realizes she feels something much deeper for him. Meanwhile, George Lucas, Star Wars Landspeeder-driving ex-boyfriend from the rich section of town, plans to cause trouble for J.J.; although he has no real feelings for Star Wars, he feels humiliated at losing her to a social inferior. However, J.J. cunningly manages things to his own and Star Wars's advantage and gives Lucas his well-deserved comeuppance. In the end, Star Wars realizes that she needs time alone and J.J. clues into Star Trek's feelings for him. Realizing that he loves her too, he gives her the diamond earrings he had originally bought as a present for Star Wars...

    ... or something...

I really think that Star Trek should have ended up with Ducky anyway.

Star Trek is a free spirit and will never settle down.
Star Wars is just happy to be out of that old abusive relationship.

Actually, Star Trek is more like the woman who finally ended a soul-deadening marriage of decades standing and was just thrilled to be bedding someone who made her feel alive again.

It really upset her kids/fans, but then they were always all about their own needs. J.J. may not have been Mr. Right, but then that wasn't what she was looking for - "Mister Right Now" would do for the moment. One thing she knows is she's well and truly done with Chubby Hubby and coddling kiddies who are long overdue to be making their own ways in the world.

Then don't make yawn inducing posts. It's not like I'm sleepy.

Elsewhere that would probably be called a metaphor.

I hope he pony trots his way to the promised land.

 There's no spin here. I'm genuinely happy for him but more importantly I'm happy for myself. New Trek and new Star Wars? That's awesome. There has already been such a great foundation laid here for nuTrek, so much so that I'm confident with him in even a limited producer-type role it won't stray off the path. Paramount won't want to screw it up too much either, the first movie was a blockbuster and I'm pretty sure the second will be as well.

I think it's a safe bet Michael Giacchino will do the music, although I can't imagine Williams not being asked or turned down. Williams will probably just step aside. It's a new regime. Giacchino would probably keep the main and end title music and then do his own thing, while keeping it "Star Warsy." Abrams will also most likely bring a brand new look to the franchise since he doesn't have Lucas's "everyone on vitural sets" stiffness. Whether one likes his visual style or not, it DOES have energy. He may keep it closer to the original trilogy style than Star Trek, but he'll bring his own pacing and energy to the project. There may be a feeling that since it's "episode 7" they want to keep the look close to what had come before, but who knows?

I see nothing but good things for Star Wars, honestly.

We'll see. I never thought Williams music was a problem.

The large orchestral is an important part of the Star Wars soundscape. I would not hope to hear synthesizers or a drum machines in a Star Wars film.

Star Trek Prom: The new meme of the TBBS.

Somehow it lacks the finesse, wit, and charm of sombreros.

The responsible party lacks the finesse, wit, charm or intellect of Samuel T. Cogley - but then, who among us could fill those shoes? ;)

The first notes that a comment is non-germane. It implies that comments should be germane (a suggestion) and indicates why that part of the post was not responded to (an explanation). Finally, that was a hostile comment I was replying to and the reply implies that one is no under no pressure to respond to such a post.

The second is simple banter. The prior post was not itself serious (note the smiling devil emoticon in that post), so there is no obligation for the reply to be serious. It was germane in the sense that the prior speech act was itself a joke (i.e., non-literal and non-hostile).

In other news, JJ Abrams is now the director of Star Wars. wait a sec. Is this thread even in the right forum?
