Abrams Directing Star Wars

I've never seen a JJ Abrams directed project that I found even remotely enjoyable, so I'm mildly disappointed. I was hoping they'd go with a different director. I'm sure it will be a step up from the prequels, but that's not really saying much. Hopefully it'll be good but I'm pretty uninterested in the whole thing until we hear more story details.

I'll go against the grain and say I think Ben Affleck is a good director. He gets a ton of crap for bad films he's acted in during his career and the whole "Bennifer" tabloid relationship but his directorial catalogue is actually solid and the films are pretty good. I think his real talent lay in directing films and not acting in them, so if a guy like Ben ever gets the nod to helm a major franchise film like Trek or Wars I'd give him the benefit of the doubt.

Gone Baby Gone was terrific.

Yeah, saying Affleck is a good director really isn't going against the grain.

He's a pretty decent actor, too. Better than people give him credit for (or at least used to).

It is with a lot of people I know. I hear it a lot: Affleck's overrated. He can't act. He can't direct. I don't like his films.

It might not be the national or global consensus but it's the predominant opinion with a lot of folks with whom I communicate.

They're probably not really interested in cinema and only remember him from ten or fifteen years ago. "Argo" just won best picture at the Golden Globes and has a 96% rating at Rotten Tomatoes. Affleck is one of the best regarded directors working today.

This has just surfaced on a number of SW fan sites. It's just a fan made teaser poster (the real deal probably won't surface until mid-to-late 2014 at the earliest) but this one looks fairly nice. It's getting positive feedback from fans.

Very nice.
The next few years will be very exciting with all the Trek & Wars stuff coming out.:bolian:

Disney had better be smart and not include a bunch of production logos at the start of the film. Disney, Bad Robot and Lucasfilm is too much to get the momentum going. Hopefully it will be like The Avengers, which had none of that at the beginning.
