Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

Sorry, wrong thread

Wow, that looked pretty damn cool (at least from what I could see).

It was especially nice to hear the Trek 09 theme again. That almost feels as iconic as any of the others now.

I'd like to see everything.

I'm wondering if you get anything like Coruscant with a dark underbelly or if it's all very civilized.
Food is abundant, no one works for a living but to better themselves, they can traverse interstellar distances. I'd say everyone is civilized beyond our current understanding.

Denobula was far more advanced than Earth yet had a seedy underbelly.. seemingly because they liked it. Where do you go for your drugs or kinks that are still looked down upon or are illegal in the current climate of civilization? There's no way mankind evolves out of some people having curiosities and desires that don't take place in front of everyone else.

Brought down by a copyright claim? Interwebz, I am most disappointed in you.

Re: Chick

I enjoyed the clip and look forward to the film.

...but the "I can't not express what I'm feeling at all times" chick nearly drove me insane. Holy cow.

That chick's laugh made me wanna beat my monitor in.

There's a whole new generation/cadre of young female fans into Cumberbatch and Freeman (via Sherlock). And Pine/Quinto as well as ST '09. I suspect we won't see many (if any) of them on this board.

I plan to see the preview when I check out The Hobbit at 48fps probably after Christmas now (if its still included with the film).

I went to see The Hobbit in 2D yesterday (sadly no trek trailer) and am curious to see the high frame rate.

But I could not resist seeing the leaked version. All in all it looks very fun, with humanity being the focus of the whole preview, so in the same spirit of trek as far as I'm concerned!

My only criticism, which may be allayed some what when I see it myself and not on shaky "laughy" cam, is that the shots of the shuttle moving in to place were too frantic, and not showing a steady pilot at the helm (piloting we know is one of Sulu's strengths).

The car was nicely futuristic zipping through the countryside. Is this the first time we've seen a personal transport vehicle on earth?
We'd previously seen a Aptera at Starfleet Academy in Star Trek

and in one of the deleted scenes of the Enterprise episode "The Expanse", Archer walks down a street in San Fransisco with a couple of smartcar-ish vehicles buzzing past in the background.

Is London in this timeline the first major European city we've seen in Trek besides Paris? Lisbon was mentioned in DS9 a couple of times and Minsk was where Worf was raised by the Rozhenkos so we heard it spoken of on occasion, but unless there's a scene in a past film or TV episode that's slipped my mind this might be the first major European metro area ever depicted in Trek outside of Paris.
In the novels, London was Optimum headquarters during WWIII in Federation's version of WWIII. It fared much worse in The Sundered's version, where a nuke detonated directly over the city at the start of the war.

In the recent DTI novels, DTI headquarters is located in Greenwich, which is borough of London.

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

They exist as endlessly scrolling visual creatures, on tumblr.

Forums are stodge.
Indeed. I have nothing against them in general, so long as they keep their "feels" out of my face and out of my cinema. :)

Seriously, is there anything more annoying than people who bring their online behavior and lingo into real life situations?

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

I'm honesty not sure what you mean.. the only RL fandom stuff that has annoyed me is the Free Hugs people and meeting males at conventions who are actually as anal and obsessive and completely unable to listen to different opinions as you meet online. That's hilarious the first time but after that it's kind of disturbing.

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

I was thinking of the people who say "LMAO" out loud or "So many feels!" or make that loud squeeee noise. Just a pet peeve. :)

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

Huh?

Juan Mann, who started the Free Hugs Campaign, has absolutely nothing to do with organised fandom. He was a new guy in a strange new town, feeling terribly homesick, who found a unique way to fight off his depression.

Re: Very iffy copy of 9 minute trailer

How creepy.

Well I was introduced to the Free Hugs people via anime online people so I think of it as a fandom thing.
