New Info! (Bad Robot press event/villain ID'd, etc.) *SPOILERS*

Re: New Info! (Bad Robot press event) *SPOILERS*

I hope like hell they don't do this. What's the point of rebooting the universe if you're just going to tell the same stories again?

If you recall, Orci once half-joked that they wanted to show the sleeper ship - and it being blown to smithereens by the Klingons.

lol - I would be fine with a cute little nod like that - it's brief, it's funny, and they're not going to try to compete with an already perfectly told story.

Keenser, really? Was there an outcry for this character from some person? Oh thats right we have to work in the lame comedy for Scotty in engineering. So glad they decided hes only good for comic relief. Bah!!

Re: Confirmation(?) of Baddie Name (Spoiler Heavy)

What's Qu'noS? :shifty:

The Klingon official spelling for Kronos.
that would be Qo'noS :klingon:
[edit] ack! beat me to the punch
anyway, I'm glad that it's a 'normal' name, not something over-the-top like Ming the Merciless. It might make for a more interesting journey to have a character that's more of an antagonist rather than a straight up villain.

Re: Confirmation(?) of Baddie Name (Spoiler Heavy)

I think Cumberbartch´s character takes over John Harrison’s position, pretending to be him.

I agree. His name might as well be John Doe for all intents and purposes. But then this has been a particularly devilish campaign of misdirection.

Re: New Info! (Bad Robot press event) *SPOILERS*

If he's meant to be that same obscure to the max character than Orci's comment was quite assholish.

Well, yeah. I've been saying for years that Abrams and his Cohorts are jackasses. Nothing new here.

It's been done before Liam Neeson was called Henri Ducard in the marketing for Batman Begins and for most of the fim until the end where they revealed he was Ra's al Ghul. If fact Christopher Nolan played that trick twice over the course of three Batman movies.

Thing is, Nolan didn't string everyone along for nearly a year by not indentifying who Neeson was playing with vague hints about he's someone from the comics and then officially announce "he's Henri Ducard," causing everyone to ask "who now?"

Isn't John Harrison one of the least intimidating villain names...ever?

Harrrrisssssssssssonnnnnnnn!

Meh.

Kirk could yell "JOHN!!!!"

Who cares? The movie is the only thing that counts. Everything before the movie is just an elaborate form of waiting.

Exactly. Why "play" a potential audience like this? I honestly don't like this part of what they do. Anthony Pascale over at trekmovie.com posted that he confirmed the villain is named, John Harrison. Still, many of us seem skeptical. And if it turns out the name is just a pseudonym, then Pascale was a catspaw and his credibility suffers. I'd think Orci et al would eventually lose trust, that way.

Be secretive. Fine. But don't be coy about it.

Re: New Info! *SPOILERS*

One of the reasons fans are scratching their heads is because producer/co-writer Roberto Orci had previously stated that Cumberbatch was playing a character from Star Trek’s canon. Clearly ‘John Harrison’ is not from Trek’s canon. Tune in tomorrow to find out what both Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci had to say about this discrepancy.
I can't wait to see how they wiggle out of that "canon character" statement from July 2012.

To be fair, Orci commented in that article that day on TM.com, verbatim, "Correction, I lied about one of those."

He must have been referring to Alice Eve-Carol Marcus, whom he said was not cannon.

Meh.

Not even close. It's: “Joooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohn!”

It's not like there has been a ton on news about the movie until the last few weeks. There are still actors in the movie that haven't been identified.

If they misspell Qo'noS, it only stands to reason that they would misspell John HarriMAN...

Not true, it was not confirmed that he is named John Harrison, it was confirmed that he is called John Harrison. This could mean he is indeed named John Harrison, or it could mean he's an imposter pretending tobe john Harrison and is actually someone else (For example a shape shifter like Garth of Izar). I'm just saying that they have still left the door open, it very well could be he is John Harrison, and that's all there is to it, but, it's not an open and shut case, and they used the word called deliberately to keep that door open.

Re: Confirmation(?) of Baddie Name (Spoiler Heavy)

Trekmovie.com is reporting several new spoilers about the movie, including confirmation of the name of the villain. Cumberbatch is:
John Harrison. Anthony Pascale has said he's confirmed it. Apparently, Orci will be explaining it, tomorrow.

Don't go to the link below unless you want to be quite spoiled.
