That will be the theme. Also, fashion. They better pimp Garth out appropriately, I'm going to assume we haven't seen that yet because it would be a spoiler.
That or he's ditched the furry coat for the leather trench coat.
Maybe all the fur was singed off in the volcano.
So he became the captain of a ship that was, at the time, almost entirely piloted by cadets who repeatedly showed their lack of experience to do what they were doing. How does that translate to Starfleet doing flyovers for his birthday? Connect the dots for me here.

Full STAR TREK trailer indicates hands against glass scene is actually Spock and Cumberbatch. If he's Sybock... Well, kudos.
That said, Cumberbatch does NOT have Vulcan ears. Hands against glass scene seems to be Cumby in the brig.
