My daughter was all excited about going to see it until I pointed out that it's the first of 3 films. I've told several excited people this and all with the same result. Disgust.
Unless they're tedious shit, of course.
Internet Fail, turn in your Nerd CardUnless they're tedious shit, of course.
Of course, but since the movie won't even be out until next week, I'm not going to make that call yet.
I'm sure there will be padding ... but even so, there's a *lot* that happens in The Hobbit that is quickly glossed over (like the rock giants). It's not a long passage in the book, but to do it any dramatic justice in a film, it would have to take a few minutes of time. Ditto for even smaller sequences like Bilbo's "purple emperors" - which will, no doubt, result in one of those lingering closeups and sweeping vista shots that Deckerd isn't too keen on.It's simply not possible to tell this story in one or likely two parts without cutting things out. Now you may think they should cut things out, but he's not really adding things.
Opie & Anthony? A veritable font of reasoned perspective.

Remember how many people were pissed when they walked out of FOTR and it ended on a cliffhanger?
Why not? Those are the only things they have the rights to and that they haven't used yet.I'm re-reading LOTR right now and I'm in the middle of Book One and I started thinking, what if they used cut material from FOTR to fill out the first Hobbit movie? The Old Forest and Tom Bombadil? The Barrow Wights? Probably would not be a popular move![]()
