Voyager wins best opening title sequence of any Star Trek series

DS9 isn't my favorite Star Trek series and I prefer Worf, as a character, to Odo. I still think Odo is the best security chief.

"Hippocratic Oath" is proof that Odo is better at the job than Worf. Worf also embellishes about how much better security was on the Enterprise when Odo calls him on it in "Bar Association". I could list a whole slew of episodes that showcase Odo's great investigative skills, "Improbable Cause" just off the top of my head right now, and I can go further if you like but I don't feel like typing so much right now.

I personally like to judge how well the characters do their job based on what I see and how they handle different situations. There are a lot of factors. As if I were a boss, evaluating employees.

I won't deny that there are people who confuse "best" with "favorite" and treat it like a popularity contest, but I'm not one of them.
Well said, and fair enough. I hope you take my point about the overall favouritism shown towards DS9 here. I was just turning Teacake's statement around for argument's sake...;)

I don't like the Voyager theme, it sounds self important and pandering- like "this is so important"

DS9's theme was a little like that seemed more regal, distinct and noble.. almost resolute. As for visuals.. DS9 all the way!

I find Voyager's theme to be way too conservative and seems almost scared to standout. I read Rick Berman considered music a distraction to the story of the shows he was producing. If that's true it would explain the theme and some of the TNG movie music choices. The TNG theme has great fanfare and gets you excited about the episode coming up. Feels bold. DS9 is contemporary but given that the direction of the show before the Dominion War and DS9=Space Mall thing was vastly different than a space exploraton show like TNG. The first theme made sense and fit the show. I didn't like the 2nd theme used in season 4-7. Enterprise's theme feels really out of place until you got to season 4 when thins were fun and adventurous. The remix of Faith of the Heart playing all bright and upbeat despite the dark tone of season 3 and the constant reminder of the millions killed by the Xindi at the end of season 2 were REALLY mismatched.

As title sequences go, Voyager's was damn near perfection with the score and the visuals on it, absolutely loved every minute of it.

DS9's took some getting used to, but once I was ok with the brass instruments in it, I love it.

TNG's tune is always a favourite of mine, although not overly keen on the visuals at the same time.

How ENT beat TOS in that poll though?! ENT's visuals were great, but the less said about that song the better.

The best part of the TNG opening is that first shot of the ship and the scale of it. The saucer takes up most of the screen at one point. I think combining that shot with the classic theme and narration tells people right off the bat that the show is going to be like the original series, but bigger.

TNG feels dated somehow. VOY still feels fresh. I like it and can see it as the winner. But they're all good, even ol' TOS.

Good point. Everything is so instant now, you get a series title logo and then BOOM, first scene.

They kind of have to do that these days.

Episodes have really been shortened compared to shows back then. The stupid networks have put in so many commercials!

I like Voyager, but I don't know if it wins best sequence to me. If we're talking visuals, than I think I like DS9's a bit better. If we're talking theme song in the opening sequence, then TNG wins, hands down, with Enterprise's theme as a close second (the speeded up later version of the theme, although the original version was good, too).

Of all the shows TNG is the only show that doesn't have it's own theme as such. It uses a elemwnts TOS and TPM themes.

I like all 4 TV series OP that I've watched.

TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT.

Each had it's good part.

VOY had the best opening CG.

DS9 had the best music diversity.

TNG had the epic orchestra style going for it, but it's flyby's were just kinda bland and rip off of TOS. I wish it didn't do the flyby at the end.

ENT opening was a nice catchy tune in the seasons 1-2. I didn't like the seasons 3-4 variation, didn't fit the pioneer spirit as much.

I also liked that ENT portrayed humanity's struggle into space and a better future for human kind.

TNG feels dated somehow.

To be honest, just the very fact that they have oepning title sequences as long as they are dates all the Trek series.

Good point. Everything is so instant now, you get a series title logo and then BOOM, first scene.

I wonder when they will skip the first scene as well. TV and films have become faster and faster, tailored to short attention spans, and what usually applied to short films (cold open and open ending) is now regularly used for feature film length.

For me, the visuals of VOY's opening are the best. I remember gasping when I first saw the POV come up through the ice ring, and seeing Voyager's reflection (even if it is scientifically inaccurate, it was still beautiful).

Musically, the TOS theme is still iconic (the fanfare is used in every show and movie for a reason), but overall, I think DS9's theme music is the best.

Though as a complete package, visuals and music, I think the opening of the ENT episode "In A Mirror, Darkly" has them all beat. :p
