Re: 14 killed, 50 injured at midnight showing of Batman movie

Ay-Yi-Yi, why bring Star Trek into it? Superhero, Batman, or Comic book fan, would've been more relevant, since it was a Comic Book Superhero Batman who's movie was invaded. But having said that, other than being dressed up in riot gear, and shooting up the Midnight premiere of the Movie, is there anything tying him directly to that specific movie, or could it have been any Midnight movie, and the one that happened to be playing was TDKR?

So, apparently the guy was a janitor at the theater, so, that explains how he got in.

ABC News apparently is trying to link him with the Tea Party <SIGH> is there no low too low for Politics. Next FOX News will probably try to link him with the Democrat or Party

They've got the eyeballs focused on them and now they'll do anything to keep them for as long as possible. Helps them attract advertising dollars.

It's disgusting.

I doubt any other movies had midnight premieres last night.

This is incredibly disturbing and will likely have far-reaching consequences in how we show movies in the coming years. People are going to look at this and wonder why precautions weren't made and something will probably be done.

Guy was an employee. Not sure what they can do?

That seems highly unlikely.

The better questions are, was anyone negligent in not reporting this guy as a lunatic, and why was he permitted to buy all these guns? Is this what a "well-regulated militia" looks like?

Who knows how altered this guy was? He could have been someone you worked with or just walked by. You wouldn't know either.

Please don't make this about gun control. Having weapons doesn't make a person do something like this.

Whilst what you say is true Rhaven, if it is harder to get a gun it can reduce the risk of such instances occuring. Though I think it is still a little earlier to draw any conclusions on the perpetrators motivations.

The gun debate in the US has been going on for years and will continue to do so. From the exact wording/punctuation in the second ammendment, to what types of guns people are allowed.

People could argue that did the framers imagine the high rate of fire modern guns can achieve?

One possible question to ask if you are a supporter guns and a loved one is shot and killed by one. Would your position be the same?

But that is a debate for our American cousins to have.

I can see movie theaters saying no more masks/costumes etc..

They'll have to ban employees as well, which might hamstring their business.

Doubt that, after all how many millions go to the cinema every year without incident?

Well no, but, with all that we know so far, I find it difficult to believe he just woke up yesterday and decided to do this, so, odds are he's been planning it for some time, so, what I meant was could it have been The Avengers or some other Premiere, Was TDKR just a coincidence that it was when he was ready and finished planning, or was there a specific reason for this specific movie

It's got to be hard to prevent something like this. With a bit of pre-planning and no fear of getting caught it wouldn't be very hard for anyone to do this. It might be harder to get away with it but the actual crime itself wouldn't be very difficult.

I don't know if I'd read anything into the choice of movie, just that it was opportune, lots of people in a confined space, cover of night, ease of access, etc.

I've never heard of anyone arguing that they did. That there's an (entirely valid) one-way talking point.

While the weapon is the instrument, it does not pull it's own trigger. It requires a human being to commit the shooting.
And yes, my position is the same.

I just read that the shooter's apartment is booby-trapped, and the police and FBI can't get in.

It's pretty scary how much thought and planning went into this.

:(

He was also dressed as the Joker

His hair was painted red and he told police he was the Joker. Not exactly dressed as the Joker in my book and I'm not sure if that wasn't a smart assed statement. Obviously this guy is crazy but I wouldn't want to jump the gun on obsessed fan just yet. Lord knows the media is already going to go ape shit on cosplayers and the like. I'd just wait for the facts to get a bit clearer myself.
