Oh, I'll not get into that kind of dick-waving. I considered the V8 and decided that, given that I'm getting 305 hp with the new 6, it would be overkill. I'm an older gent cruising the countryside and driving to the beach with my girl, not a young guy who's going to race it. And I'm just barely sensible enough to like the (relative) fuel economy, 30 on the highway.

Although I'll admit that I drooled a little over the yellow Laguna Seca that was sitting on the lot.

As far as the war with the bowties goes...right now when I'm out driving and see someone in a Camaro (or a Challenger - or a Mini, for that matter) I'm filled with comradely affection for anyone and everyone who's driving a car that they really love.

That's a nice lookin' car, Q2UnME. What kinda mods you got on it?

Well, as said, that's the mucsle car guy in me. As a reasonable and above all a man who likes engineering I will say that the current V6s in both the Mustang and Camaro are great engines. Finally US car companies figured out how to make V6s.

Me, I have a practical diesel car trough the company so all that remains is a nice time off car. I really, really, really want a new Camaro, but the tax on that thing is murder in these car hating parts of the world. Only guys I've seen driving one is the kind of douches who buy it just to show that they have the money, not because they actually love the car. So I'm looking at getting a used 98-02 LS1 Camaro within the next few months. Maybe have some time to tinker with it before winter.

As for the last part, I agree. I just wish the car climate around here was friendlier to more fun, and especially American cars. And I'm not talking about the weather.

Yeah, you know I had no idea before I got the car how positively people - strangers - would respond to it. A day doesn't go by but someone I don't know says something admiring right out of the blue. Despite some rough decades people here still love cars.

And the cast aluminum engine really is something, especially in consideration of the ancient iron block Ford was putting into the car until just two years ago.

HaHa. Don't worry about it. It's my fault for not being more clear about why I was posting the picture. And thanks.

Also, thank you to everyone else that said congratulations. The only reason I'm not thrilled about it is because I'm not even dating the father. Eh, it's 2012, we do things differently now.

I'm one of those guys compliment guys :guffaw: I remember last summer on the ferry (I work in the archipelago so every day I have to take two five minute ferry rides) there was this guy with an AWESOME 4th gen Firebird. I went up and complimented him on the car and we had a nice chat for a few minutes. Naturally I drove dads crappy old Ford beater that he has as his work car

It really is a nice pair of engines. I remember when the Camaro arrived and I talked to a import dealer about them bringing in some of the V6 version but he said they sadly probably would not be bringing them in. He and a lot of the other guys at the dealerships loved the engines, but neither of them thought they would sell. Sadly I think he's right.

Oh, jeez. I can't get over the pictures coming from Colorado. When I lived there, I was always afraid of wildfires. Never saw any like this. :(

I guess with the taxes and everything a lot of folks are priced out and the only market is for the high-end versions?

Just curious, Dennis...are you more a fan of modern Mustangs or the classic, old-school ones from the sixties?

My ideal model would be, oh, a 1967 Mustang Fastback.

My ideal would be the '68 Royal Maroon white top convertible that my brother owned when we were in school.

In homage to that car I've mounted a '68 fender badge on the dash of mine.

So...does that answer the question?

With the new ones, unfortunately yes. But that's what the used market is for. That's when the real enthusiasts come out of the woodwork and can afford to buy the cars. My plan for the current Camaro is basically to get a proper used one in about five years when the next generation has arrived and the prices have gone down. Hopefully the taxes will have been adjusted by then what with it being a slightly older car by that time.

Ah. Well, I'll cross my fingers for you. What are fuel costs like right now?

Adjusted...about 8.6 USD for a gallon (we use liters here so it might be off a smidge). And that's pretty good. It's been up to way more in the last year.

Cripes. Wait for a hybrid muscle car. ;)

The 'Stang has been costing me a lot this month, partly because it uses 33% more gas to go the same distance as my riceburner but mostly because I'm driving it about four times as much.

Being silly with my twin sister. (Not sure if I've posted pics with her before? We don't look TOO much alike anymore, but people still confuse us.:P)
