^ But Deus Ex kinda fits that kinda ending better. For Mass Effect 3 it was more of a WTF?!!!
Yeah, which is why I originally said it was more satisfying. However, you can't beat lazy when you literally make it "Push Button #1 for Ending #1, Push Button #2 for Ending #2...and push the last button to blow it all to hell because killing everyone, including yourself, and leaving no trace is a cool exit". Oh, and the last choice really isn't philosophically different from just telling the truth (Ending 2, I believe), aside from sticking it to the mad man.
ME3 is
slightly better than that. They go through the trouble of not making the endings actual buttons. The choices just deliberately suck so there isn't one that's fully satisfying. They sabotaged them because it's really hard to answer the questions of free will, genocide, and the definition of life while still providing an epilogue for the characters. Not sure I really blame them for it. Fortunately, it's still a video game, so if the best focus group testing idea is setting ME4
after ME3, they'll do it and make it fit. Eidos made Deus Ex 2 fit in with all of the endings of Deus Ex 1, I'm sure Bioware can cobble something together with these endings. It would certainly be more interesting than going back to the First Contact War, or the Krogan Rebellion, or some other thing that was really just a set up for how the races interacted in ME1-3.
In case you missed the news, the free Extended Cut DLC will be released on Tuesday, so if you haven't finished the game yet you have a choice between playing the original ending or waiting for this supposedly improved ending. (The story will remain the same, the new DLC just provides extra story sequences on top of what's already there.)
Which are you planning to do?
Aren't they doing the EMS thing with this as well?
Allegedly, an EMS of 3,100 will get you the best possible ending, down from (I believe) 5,000
I started reading the first Mass Effect book on my Kindle; about 40% through. Pretty good so far. It's nice to have some of the universe expanded upon (Anderson, Saren, etc.)
The Karpyshin books are awesome.
I also downloaded the Datapad app on my iPad so I managed to get my galactic readiness up to about 52% or so. It's slow going but I'm feeling like by the time I'm able to get to the point of no return I'll have increased by percentage enough to hopefully easily push me into "best ending" territory.
If you have a PC, it's far less work to download the gibbed Savegame editor and set your points to 6,000 before starting the last base. Though, that may not be necessary anymore if they really did nerf the EMS needed to get the good ending.
