Were Neelix and Kes sexual?

AntonyF

Official Tahmoh Taster
Rear Admiral
I started rewatching Voyager and yes... my mind went there... but I did wonder about the nature of their relationship.

They were clearly a couple. But... they have separate quarters.

Then she's young. Of course she looks an adult, and it's not specified when they're sexual (although they become ready to bear children at 4/5 years old). Although they way they portrayed her as quite child like definitely puts one off the idea of them being sexual even if it is normal for Ocampa.

But Neelix was quite ready to impregnate her at just under 2 years old when she had an early Elogium, so sex is an option.

I always assumed Neelix and Kes were a couple in every sense of the word, but that the network made the showrunners give them separate quarters - i.e. the return of the old censorship from the 50's that made *human* married couples do that in sitcoms - precisely because Kes looked so childlike. Not enough viewers would remember that she is a full adult, Ocampically speaking.

Kes was an adult.

By the time she was 5, her emotional simpatico golden years age group would have had her hitting on the Indian.

Kes was an Adult and Neelix was a paedophile.

Notice how he didn't ask that klingon how old she was.

5 year old Klingons can be mistaken for human adults all too easily.

The only time Kes looked childlike is when they had her standing next to one of the many 40 year olds in the cast like Ethan or Mulgrew.

In Elogium, where her pregnancy rage gets tapped early, Neelix spends what seems like HOURS trying to decide if he should boff her... Although in retrospect I'm now not certain if it's boff her period (I'm editing for spelling errors and just noticed what I said. Sorry.) or boff her now that the her baby making factory is open for business.

The fool actually thinks that he'll be pissing his life away raising a child, when in truth if he has a daughter, kim and Paris will be going rock paper scissors for first banging rights there abouts her first birthday.

In Patruation Tom had a food fight for the right to shag Neelix's Girlfriend.

Childlike? Who?

It might just be me, but after I see a woman give birth, like in Before and After, I tend not to think of them as a child until they start to make stupid decisions a few hours later... Reality TV has a lot to answer for.

kes was an Adult and neelix was a pedophile.

That is a contradiction. If we accept that Kes is an adult, then Neelix - by definition - can't be a pedophile. Unless you're suggesting that he didn't know the Ocampa life cycle, which is pretty much impossible. Neelix seemed very familiar with Ocampa biology in "Elogium"...

Yup.

You're acting like a contradiction is a bad thing?

A double standard even?

I mean if Neelix is allowed to date a one year old Kes, why Not a one year old Naomi?

You are gloriously disturbing. :guffaw:

Ah, but, Naomi (At least up until the end of S6, still need to watch S7) stopped her rapid growth/maturation at about 8 or 10 years old Human Maturation. Kes, went all the way to adulthood with hers. Besides, Sam seems to have abandoned Naomi (She survived in the episode where she was dying right?), so, for all intents and purposes Neelix is now her father, so, that idea is just wrong, even if it was appropriate under other circumstances.

Apples and oranges. A one year old Ocampa is not the same as a one year old human - what ever alien species Naomi's father was. Ocampans have a lifespan of nine years, not ninety.

The Doctor married a woman who was only a few minutes old in Blink of an Eye... And that's noooot paedophilia?

Naomi, at age 1, is still a child. Kes, at that same age, is not. That's why.

The Doctor married a woman who was only a few minutes old in Blink of an Eye...

Eh?

Once the Doctor set foot on that planet, he became part of its time frame. The woman, whoever it was, must have been a full adult. She wasn't a few minutes old, not even close.

The Doctor didn't magically enter a universe with different rules.

He overclocked himself so that he was moving thousands and thousands of times faster than he should have been for less than a minute which equated to 3 years on the surface on the blink world.

Birth to grave for this woman was less than ten minutes, but still it's ten real minutes and if she had a stop watch around her neck her entire life, that's exactly what it would say.

Now in Endgame the doctor asks seven on a date.

If she had said Yes, would Seven have been a paedophile for dating a seven year old as much as Denora Pel had been a paedophile for shtupping the Doctor when he was merely a two year old?

The Doctor did not "overclock" himself, time simply moved faster on the planet than on the VOY. The woman he met and had a son with was an adult and all thee of them experienced time normally.
You obviously have a problem with adopting different perspectives, be it that of a species with a lifespan of nine years, that of an ADULT hologram (the doctor is not programmed to mature and go through childhood and adolescence, he simply is an adult) or that of a planet on which time is moving faster relative to the outside world.

Do I really have to put a winky face after everything I say?

Because that would be exhauuuusting.

but it wouldn't really be exhausting.

It takes almost no energy to type a winky face.

To become exhausted by typing winky faces, I'd have to type several thousand, maybe tens of thousands of winky faces and by then I wouldn't know if I was exhausted from typing winky faces or sleepy or sleepy because I'm exhausted from typing winky faces, the only thing I would be sure of is that I would be having nightmares about winky faces.

Doctor. That will be almost two days in their time frame. Gather whatever data you can. Seismic charts, meteorological records, anything that might give us a clue about how to break orbit.
EMH: Understood.
TORRES: This will speed up the scanning rate of your programme, allow you to make the transition.
EMH: See you soon.
JANEWAY: Energising.
TORRES: One, two, three.
JANEWAY: The confinement beam is destabilising.
The planets core was composed of tachyons creating a temporal field which exacted a different flowrate of time either side of the temporal field.

Oh.

We're both right?

That's impossible.

Contradictions do not not happen where some one can be wrong and right at the same time!

This is my theory:

Neelix was in love with Kes and formed a strong bond with her. However because of her innocence he kept that bond romantic but not sexual, waiting until Kes was ready to advance the relationship. Like many kind hearted "nice" guys he waited too long and by the time she was ready for a mature relationship she had completely outgrown him. It's like that sweet girl at high school that hangs out with the nerdy fellow and they are such good friends and then BOOM she's going out with some dude on the football team and the nerdy fellow is left with a broken heart.

(a repost from a year+ old discussion on the matter)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091790/

In one of John Hughes seminal 80s coming of age Molly Ringwald driven flicks: Pretty in Pink: John Cryer, who plays a duesh these days on Two and a Half Men, is cast as "Ducky" the unfortunately platonic best friend of the most beautiful woman in the in the world, who he is secretly and desperately in love with, (and doubly) who he has never found the right moment to cowboy up to and tell her how he really feels, when in walks Andrew McCarthy all sexy and steals his redhead out from under him.

Exodus knew what I was talking about last time I put the Ducky card in play.
