Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Looks very much like a childish hissy fit to me.

Then you have an exceedingly liberal definition of "childish hissy fit."

I agree with SCI, too many people threw shit at DRGIII and I cannot blame him for leaving. They have themselves to blame. DRGIII tried his best to tell why things became like they did in the book. But for others to insult, give false facts, belittle him and his work, enough is enough. I hope those people get banned someday. They deserve it.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

I thought this was great. Granted it spent much time covering what happened in Zero Sum Game and Rough Beasts of Empire, but I think this did a better job. Smoothing over the final characterization of Sarina Douglas, and making the whole "Sisko leaves his family" storyline more believable and palatable.

I appreciate how the entire Typhon Pact is shown as not homogenous, even within their own races. How their elements that really want peace, and not just out and out warmongers. Most of the "bad guys" really do have a point in feeling threatened by the Federation, just as the Feds would if the situation was reversed.

Though a minor point, I also like the integration of crews. Romulan ships with Breen crew.. Starfleet ships with Cardassian crew due to greater partnerships of the expanded Khitomer Accords. This is cool stuff.

Can't wait for part 2. Easily my favorite Typhon Pact book.

About half way though(Khitomer conference). Still no strong sense of good or bad.

Always with the sense of proportion!

I was like that until then and boom, the story really picks up and I'm rather enjoying it now.

(FWIW, Christopher's link won't actually work for anyone (you can't link to search result pages that way for implementation reasons I'll spare you my usual big technobabble monologue on now), but the individual posts I linked to are exactly those that go into these matters.)

The search results ID eventually expires is the reason a link to search results don't work.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

I've haven't had any luck finding this book at the local book stores. Newer Startrek novels are getting harder to find at all the bookstores. They have the older Star trek novels but only rarely they'll have the newer books on their bookshelves .I hope Barnes &Noble will finally have this book in their stores. I really want to read this booksometime and catch up with what's happened to the ds9 characters especially after reading the comments in this thread.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

^ Can't you just order it online?

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

For that matter, you can just ask the bookstore clerks to special-order it for you.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

I do not believe DS9 will be destroyed, but if it is, I would be okay with it.

It's not the station's destruction I would object to (well, maybe the way it went out, having difficulty with three attackers when its held off a fleet before), but the wiping out of the vast majority of the cast. Killing Kira, or Ro, or Kas, or Bashir, or Serena, or Quark (maybe?), or any two of those plus a new cast member (I like Chief Blackmer) would be one thing - and I'm completely comfortable having Vaughn not come back - but all of them at once? Be one loooonely DS9 series, just Sisko and Prynn.

I could easily envision a scenario where Enterprise and Robinson stop the attack on DS9...but a great portion of it has been destroyed or will be destroyed. The crew evacuates the station and watches it blow up, similar to how Sisko witnessed the desturction of the Saratoga.

Sisko witnessing the Saratoga and DS9 exploding and there's absolutely nothing he can do about it? Now THAT is pain.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Only 3 attackers were depicted as accomplishing the destruction of DS9? Wow!

The writers these days sure are not timid in depicting known characters as incompetents.

Re: Typhon Pact: Plagues of Night by DRGIII Review Thread (Spoilers!)

Incorrect, though I'll admit I worded it clumsily.

That works, though I don't think there's time.

That wouldn't work.
The Enterprise is still in the Gamma Quadrant, days away at least. The explosion is due to bombs inside the reactor core, not an external attack. And the explosion happens before the Robinson can contact anyone aboard the station or take any action.

The dialogue earlier made it clear that the explosion probably would only destroy the core and damage the rest of the station. There was a line suggesting that the damage would be worse if it happened while the shields were up, which they were, but how much worse was left ambiguous. So what's already been established in the text itself is enough to conclude how the station will survive -- at least long enough to evacuate the remaining personnel aboard.

I tell you what, poor Sisko cannot catch a break, how much pain and sorrow can one Captain take!? I hope that the Prophets will have mercy on him and give him some grace and happiness soon.

They could always bring O'Brien back.

I didn't know you wrote country music. ;)

Seriously, lol, his life sounds like a country music song! I am hoping that this chain of events might bring some DS9 characters back together on the station, like O'Brien and Sisko. It might be a pipe dream, but I still dream of it anyway.

For a moment, I read take! as Takei...

So, Chris, I'm guessing you finished it. Any thoughts?
