Sooner than I expected, but of course there are 4 fewer episodes so the workload was probably a lot less.

If they can really get out 2 a year, though, that would be excellent.

I really wish they were doing the screenings in Canada too. Maybe I should push up my date of departure for New York.

I've been so focused on the first season I haven't given much thought to the second yet.

I have to admit there are fewer episodes I'm looking forward to seeing in HD for the first time, but Measure of a Man, Time Squared, Contagion, and Q Who should all look very cool.

I thought this was interesting from AMC's website:

MPAA Rating:PG

Wow, expensive to make these restorations! 9 million? I presume it will get cheaper as we go on? Surely its not going to be 9 million per season, thats 63 million dollars! Unprecedented, but worth it because they are 'future proofing' for the new HD generation. They will surely make this back through TV Deals, on-demand streaming and Blu-Ray sales over the next 25 years+

I doubt it will take CBS that long to return their investment. The show still makes a lot of money in re-runs, and this restoration process has been done in order to ensure that it continue to do so as more and more channels switch to completely HD programming.

I seriously doubt that's the right figure. Maybe 9 mil for the entire series, but not just one season.

I agree, this figure seems ridiculously high, even if this includes all possible costs associated with the project.
Who knows, maybe they're including infrastructure for DS9-R and VOY-R. Or they did some new effects or something and had to pay CBS Digital for that.

It would be sweet if that were true. But I doubt they are planning that far ahead? Work on DS9-R is at least another year or so away and VOY-R would be at least 3-4 years away. If they ever choose to remaster them that is.

Well, I suspect that they might be including the costs of the scanning, editing, and personnel in that figure.

Well, it breaks down to $350,000 per episode if you divide by 26... but I bet "Encounter at Farpoint" cost a few million just by itself (so maybe more like $200-250,000) with all the R&D start up costs involved and the 8-perf VistaVision VFX element scanning it required which will be re-purposed later on for all subsequent seasons. Not to mention all the unusable SD effects that had to be re-created. It's probably one reason why they wanted to sell the pilot to us twice! ;)
