TOS Episode Title Challenge...

...y'know, I've been here for almost a decade and this is my first post in the TOS forum. Yikes!

Well I hope to start with a bang. This was an idea I had years ago, and I've just recently decided to make a serious go at it.

The Challenge is simple. On blank paper write down 1 through 79. Then see how many TOS episode titles you can remember without any kind of hints... Obviously we're on the honor system here lol.

I've boasted in the past that I thought I could probably do it, and decided to put my neurons where my mouth was and really try. While I also love TNG, its episode titles were dreadfully boring as a rule, and I constantly bitched about it during the first run. DS9 grew into awesome titleage, and VOY largely reverted to the TNG mold with w/a few high points. I always thought TOS had memorable titles, and now I'm trying to prove it...

If you choose to accept the mission, tell us how much time it took, if you got them all or not, and what the first and last ones you recalled were... in spoiler code for the titles, of course.

In about two hours' total time over a couple of days, I'm currently at 73 and still working.

I could only get 71 in an hour and a half, with two other descriptions for which I can't remember the names. Given that I've not watched them in years, that's not bad.

Used to be a time when I could get all 79. Either the brain is going, or it's been too long since I've seen the eps.

You know; the TOS titles are the only titles I can remember. Of course I've had 40 years worth of viewing.
How lazy am I that I've got the DVD set of TOS to the left of my monitor. And my XBox with Netflix to the right of the monitor. And I'll watch TOS on Netflix every time.

Old age seriously creeping in. Got only 46 in 15 minutes before frustration set in, and I gave up. Shouldn't have tried this before breakfast.

I got fifty in ten minutes. Most of the gaps were from the third season.

I was surprised by how evenly my distribution was; despite watching the third season the least, I knew about the same proportion of episode titles from the third year as the first and second.

(Perhaps the result of years of complaining about them on the internet.)

I got 52/80 in ten minutes.

This is a memory game I used to challenge myself with many, many years ago! It's been a long time since I saw any TOS episodes, but I think of them grouped in themes: long titles, titles with punctuation, one-word titles, funny episodes, Shakespearean episodes, episodes where Uhura sings, episodes dealing with time travel, etc.

When I was 10 years old I had the titles of all 58 Hardy Boys books memorized, in order. Now I can't remember my own cell phone number...
