Best space battle scenes in a movie?

Me too. It is probably the only time I have said "wow" out loud while watching a tv show.

The Battle of Antarctica in SG-1 was amazing. The battle itself wasn't all that interesting, but finally seeing Earth holds its own in a battle against the Goa'uld was absolutely incredible. Massive budgets can't compare to 7 years of build up.

Indeed. I only wish they'd been longer.

And speaking of Yamato, the 2-part EDF vs the Comet Empire battle around Saturn way back in the original series 2 was another of the greatest ever. I truely hope it gets remade in the next few years.

The best battle scenes in nuGalactica have to be those in Razor, esp the "flashback" to the last battle of the First Cylon War.

You can't go wrong with any of the SW films except AOTC.

ST: Nemesis and FC have already been mentioned. I'll add Wrath of Khan to that list, esp the Battle of Mutara Nebula.

DS9's fleet actions were ambitious for their time and budget, but suffer a little once you realize that 90% of the ships are just sitting there doing nothing in the background in most shots.

Still, we get iconic moments like the two Galaxys summarily shoving a Cardassian ship out of the way. (Does anyone know which two those were, btw?)

A lesser known one would be the Battle of the Supergate in SG-1 where an alliance of Milky Way ships faces off against 4 Ori cruisers and gets it's collective keister handed to it.

Stargate: Atlantis had some good ones too.

One recently i saw was near the end of Mass Effect 3 (i know it's not a movie but the whole game nearly is) when the massive Alliance Fleet launches its counteroffensive.

That battle had it all.. scale, huge explosions intercut with a non named combat pilot fighting it out against the enemy at his own small scale. Brilliant to see.

I just rechecked that moment on youtube (link) and noted that neither model had any registry to speak of.

But, according to Memory Alpha the only remaining three named Galaxy-class starships were at the time the USS Galaxy, USS Challenger, and the USS Venture.

Thats not to say that they couldn't have any of the five visable Galaxys in an earlier shot of the Federation fleet in the same episode.

So, take from that what you will.

This - they're both awesome. Along with the scenes in Shadow Dancing, and No Retreat, No Surrender.

Such a crying shame that we'll never see them in HD

The Federation fleet attack on the Borg cube at the beginning of First Contact is short but sweet - and definitely pops on Blu-ray!

The first one that occured to me was the Alliance/Reaver battle in Serenity.

Particularly because it was so emotional.

Operative: There are a lot of innocent people being killed in the air right now.
