i just got a monogram model of voyager and im have a hard time finding the right color for the hull. need help

Over on the Starship Modeler website they have a reference page written by Rick Sternbach listing the FS color code numbers for the paints used on the studio model. According to the article, the overall hull color is FS 35526 Deckhouse Blue. That should give you a good place to start.

The VFX folks typically dialed down the saturation of the Voyager model shots, so your best bet from a rattle can would be Light Ghost Gray.

Well thanks for just joining This site,Revell colour codes suck,Iam using Tamiya paints and have just about given up on this Model as the primer base colour was a better starting point than using Tamiyas fine light grey,Here is one for all the model kit builders out there,I bought a 500ml can of Simoniz 4.99, Grey primer to do my Van(few touch ups before painting)and guess what made by the same company.10.99 for tamiya 30ml.What a rip off.Anyhow did Voyager have blinking Nav lights,Ive watched the opening sequences and i cant see any light s blinking

Drilled out all the windows and watched various build on YOUTUBE etc,What is the best way.Paint Model first, then fill in windows or go and go the tediuos root of masking every1 off again.Dont know as iam only back into model kits after 20ish yrs

Yeah, what we saw on screen was always more about the lighting than the actual color of the model.

Wasn't the Vulcan shuttle in TMP almost purplish, but ended up looking orange (at least on the big screen)? I know the AMT kit was orange-ish.

I did a Nebula in two very contrasting shades of blue.

Hi,

You can view all my built models here:

I have photographed it with the Playmates and also the Starships Collection shots.

I used Tamiya TS-81 spray paint for Voyager & NX01 Refit, and it works well.
I used TS-67 for my BSG model (far too dark).
I Used TS-32 for K7 and my small Enterprise C model.
I used AS-25 (which I DO NOT recommend for my large Ent-C) as it comes off as blue and not gray!
I used Matt white for my Reliant & Grissom.

Just ignore the colours on any instructions. For instance, the Reliant says duck blue for the primary hill, around the aft torpedo pylons, but this looks awful now, I should have went for dark gray. Best bet is to look at the TV/film or various screen caps on the web and do what looks like that, not what the specific modellers on the series used.

My other models are here:

The hardest colour I ever had to find was Galor class yellow/brown!

Hi All,I have always primed my model kits mostly with grey, but since using Tamiya paints have found them better for coverage and easily sanded if need be,Only 1 model kit reacted and i think it was because of revell putty. Also I can recommend a Great company in Dublin who is doing Lighting kits(JBLIGHTING)selling his products on Ebay for all of us SciFi Fans.Live Long and Prosper

Hi All,I have always primed my model kits mostly with grey

I know that's always the advice, for acylic/plastic models. I have never bothered, as 1 or 2 coats of canned Tamiya spray paint is enough. The only time I primed was on a resin model kit, which was a nightmare. It took 2 cans for a 9" model!!!!
