what is the color of voyagers hull

This question gets to the heart of the SciFi modeled dilema. What are you building a model of?

A. The original filming miniature
B. How it looked on screen
Or
C. The SF ship being portrayed as it would look to an in universe observer.

All three will be somewhat different, with color being the main starting place. Any color guides will be for the filming miniature. But they will rarely look right to your eyes, as much of the on screen color appearance came from lighting and post production manipulation.

To my eye I always think Voyager looks better with a very very light base color. A very light grey. Just a bit darker than white. The best on screen color reference in my opinion is the crash sequence in Timeless, as that is really the best on screen in universe look at the ship in what we would consider "natural lighting".

I recently started another Voyager build but the paint reacted crazy on hull section,Washed model, wiped with preclean then primed all over again with Tamiya,s fine primer, then painted various squares on the saucer sections a different colour light ghost gray(i think ts-81).Have to get some clear base before i can put on decals etc.So far this time it hasnt reacted.Thank God

I am ironically in almost exactly the same boat. Deckhouse blue (the shooting miniature colour) just doesn't exist nymore, I have gone with tamiya xf19 after going through an fs colour chip and deciding its within the same range. It works pretty well when I repainted a damaged starships collection voyager. So hopefully it will work on the kit.

Am handpainting the whole thing though. So probably can't prime it.

Jaime, best of luck with the hand painting,if using Tamiya, just make sure you mix in the thinners 2/1.Then using the paint brush wont look streakyish.Tamiya paints dry lovely when left alone.Would not go down the road of using revell paint on this kit, they dry looking like you slapped it on

Yeah, was always gonna go Tamiya, my dad's one of those 'if there was such a thing as a pro hobbyist' type on modelling. I didn't do as much because starships are my thing not planes, but have hit two model shows this year for parts and am refilling my ancient toolbox...but he's pulling bits from 50 years worth of toolboxes he has on the go for me.

thanks for the 2.1 tip, most I read were saying 70 30, but am syringing the paint over so 2.1 is easier to measure come the time.

This is my first solo build. In my mid 30s. Filler has been scarey.

Maybe we should Start a trek modellers thread since there's clearly a few of us now?
