Game of Thrones season 2 anticipation - HBO shows footage

Her face is way too pretty for someone struggling to survive in the harsh north beyond the wall, but other than that she definitely looks the part. And given the excellent casting choices so far, I have little doubt that her acting won't do justice to the character.

Almost all the "ugly" characters are better looking in the TV show than in the books (Eddard, Jorah, Tyrion, the Hound). It's remarkable that Brienne's actress was able to ugly herself up enough.

Melisandre isn't exactly working for me. Ygritte is dead on though. Margery is looking pretty close in that picture as well. After watching the Tudor's I was a bit worried she wouldn't look the part.

Eddard was described as plain in the books. Plain is the last word I would use to describe Sean Bean.

"Long-faced and plain", I think. It was to explain why Arya was also known as "Arya Horseface", in that she got her looks from her dad more than her mom.

And naturally, Arya's actress, while not prettier than Sophie Turner/Sansa is most definitely not a "Horseface".

Ties together well, since Eddard is now handsome then Arya is also cuter looking since she "gets her looks from her dad".

Heck, the books says that Ned's brother Brandon was supposedly the more handsome and stronger one but in the show it's mentioned by Littlefinger that Ned was "an even more impressive specimen" than Brandon.

Just finished season 1. Truly, amazingly incredibly good. Since I read the book, I knew all of what was coming, but that didn't hurt things at all for me. I just wish it was next year so I could get the DVDs for season 2. A Clash of Kings will definitely be my next book purchase.
EDIT: I just found out that Shae is played by the lead actress from the German movie Head-On. I've seen the movie, but I had no idea that was her.

Nancy dewolf of wall street journal shares her thoughts:

For those among us who instinctively recoil at the sight of leather jerkins, cut throats and castle keeps, "Games" may take some getting used to. But the cinematography, like the cast of largely British and Irish actors, is magnificent. Each week the story unfolds like a tapestry, its intricate stitches slowly creating not just a scene but a whole world. It's a world to get lost in, but not always easy to endure. Because the good die as often as the bad, and happy endings are only for fairy tales.

So do we know yet if they'll be using the Clash of Kings title anywhere in the season?

That first shot of Cersei is probably her armored outfit, I can see the metal breastplate.

"Thrones" creates such a rich visual feast -- replete with plenty of gratuitous nudity and blood-letting -- as to almost obscure its fundamental storytelling pleasures, which are as much a mob drama as anything else, having traded bullets for broadswords. By that measure, this really might the closest spiritual heir to "The Sopranos" HBO has delivered since the show's notorious whiteout.

"Game of Thrones" will always face an extra hurdle in that some will resist its fantasy elements, but under a niche-oriented business model, who cares? For an army of loyalists, HBO will be must-have TV each time the show raises its banner.

And in pay-TV terms, that is power.

Just finished season 1 last night. Absolutely amazing show. Hopefully I won't have to wait until next year for the DVD/blu-ray release. Gonna read the books soon.
