Star Wars: The Clone Wars S4

I find it interesting that I don't recall there being an explanation of exactly how Maul survived, and nor do I recall holding the lack of any explanation against the episode.

Sure, it's nuts that Maul could survive, but Star Wars has always been as much fantasy as sci fi, and the important part is that they've taken a nothing character, who existed for the sole purpose of selling kid's toys, and made him interesting for the first time.

"Anakin, she's really OK...from a certain point of view."

s a young apprentice, Anakin can be paid peanuts and may even be eligible for Government subsidises :)

Ever since he left Tattoine, he's lived his whole life on the taxpayer's dime, although apparently he's getting sick of it since the food sucks. Maybe that's the explanation for everything, the dark side has better chefs.

And why wouldn't anyone gladly take more Darth Maul after everyone pretty much agreed that he was sadly underused in TPM?

Me, I don't see what the big deal was about this Maul guy. He was little more than a glorified henchman. No dialogue or personality to speak of, just a stunt guy for the heroes to fight. And it's not like any of the characters in TPM were memorable in a good way.

Coming from the chap who wrote an ok novel about two unimportant guest characters who had what, 12 lines of dialogue each in Trials and Tribble-ations and their only real characteristics was that they were both pretty much pedantic arses. I find that comment from you pretty funny.

Me, I personally liked both episodes and what they did with Maul was rather good and they almost managed to polish a turd when it comes to his rather rubbish characterisation from Phantom.

Spoilers I guess...

The lack of logic in Maul's survival aside, this was an awesome episode.

Yes it's not as if Maul's master had learned from a Sith Lord who was known for having found a means to conquer death.

A Sith who was being killed around the same time that Maul ( a relative noob who never learned the ability ) was getting cut in half.

The novel was written with no consultation with George Lucas. He isn't beholden to its details especially when it changes prior stuff.

How are the writers going to finesse the problem that Obi-Wan now really should arrest her as an enemy of the state?

She probably won't let him.

But he'd try. The point is, that's going to simply be ignored because if something was going to happen, we'd have seen it this episode.

I'd like at least some dialogue settling the matter next year.

+1

In 8 minutes Maul had more dialogue than he did in the entire Episode I.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Maul

Maul survived his defeat at the hands of Kenobi through his hate and will to live, and hatred against Kenobi, he reached out with the Force and grabbed an air vent. He somehow escaped from Naboo and arrived to Lotho Minor in order to escape his master's anger for Maul's failure.

What I meant was, there has been no explanation given on screen in The Clone Wars series.

What you're citing evidently is what happens in Star Wars: The Wrath of Darth Maul. As agreement is neither necessary nor implied, it remains to be seen whether and to what degree the series will agree with the EU, if it's ever addressed at all.

Actually that sounds like the same explanation Maul gave in dialogue here, that it was his hate that kept him alive. (If you call that an explanation.)

I think it would've more interesting if Maul's other half had survived. These pissed off pair of Sith legs running around...maybe talking Assy McGee style. Or someone building the legs an artifical torso.

There's still room for that to happen. The big surprise. "Now that Darth Maul's upper half has been defeated, Obi-Wan must contend with the Sith lord's lower body!"

Yoda: "Kick Darth Maul ass. Literally, Obi-Wan must."

Filoni: "I don't about this idea..."

"Katie Lucas wrote the script."

Filoni: "Okay, we'll run with it."

I don't know where you got that idea.

As I've said in other forums, GL was the one who said that Plagueis should be a Muun, and that Plagueis should have an "accident" that forces him to wear a mask. GL also weighed in on other matters, though mostly through Howard Roffman -- then president of LucasArts -- with whom I worked most closely.

George was involved in the early stages. When the book was first proposed, I wrote to him and asked whether there was any reason why Plagueis couldn't be a non-human, and he wrote back that Plagueis could be a Muun and sent me some artist renderings of the character. From that point on, everything was approved, as they're saying, “at the highest level.” I worked most closely with George's right-hand man at Lucas licensing, Howard Roffman. It was a strange way to go about the book, because I kind of had to bypass both Del Rey and the usual editorial staff at Lucasfilm and work directly with Howard over the course of what amounted to about a year of preparation.

I submitted many, many versions of the outline until we finally reached consensus on where we wanted to go with the book. The marketing text about “this is canon at the highest level” – I suppose that's true, that a lot of the stuff came from the very top levels of Lucasfilm. Everything was approved at that high level. I had to make the assumption that Howard was speaking directly with George about a lot of this stuff. I didn't have any meetings directly with George, but it seemed like a lot of the approval was coming through him to Howard. I was not privy to all of the things that happened behind the scenes.

Also, the novel directly references TCW's continuity in various places, including Talzin, Maul's new backstory and vague references to Mortis. Thus it is meant to be consistent with TCW, regardless of whether or not the writers of TCW have read it. As far as "changing prior stuff" goes, it really only contradicts fan speculation about things that were never concretely established in the first place, like the timing of Plagueis' death.

I finally got caught up today, and I though the first half of the finale was pretty good, but I really liked the second half. I know alot of people were complaining about the snake alien in the first half, but I didn't mind him. I also really enjoyed the Obi-Wan/Ventress pairing and I am very curious what they intend on doing with Ventress now, and what's going to become of the "Sons of Dathomir".

I hope they will go after the Dooku, Palps duo.

I'm glad Ventress and Maul are going to be around for a bit. No sense in killing off awesome villains too soon, especially if we are getting a couple more extra seasons from this remarkable show.
