Everything you're trying to compare Star Trek to fails as a comparison. The Star Trek franchise is nothing like Hawaii 5-0 or Batman.
I ask, how on earth is it Star Trek if it doesn't use the established universe and doesn't have kind of continuity to what has been established as Star Trek. You can only retool or revamp something so much before it becomes something new. Look at James Bond, a bad comparison btw, at least that's grounded in the books and they're trying to get back to the nitty-grittyness of the books with these newer films. Whereas Trek is....going what direction exactly? All they seem to be trying to attempt is to make glossy popcorn fluff for the masses. How is this a continuation of Trek? It just baffles me, and I'm not totally convinced that everyone who says they have no problem with nu-Trek is being totally honest with themselves.
Well yeah of course I would. A whole series of the Mirror Universe would be a total bust, watching our characters be villains is hardly what Trek is about.
It just seems like SUCH a waste to reject 24 seasons worth of lore and world-building. World-building is what makes a great show, starting over from scratch just wouldn't be as satisfying, rather just distracting.
