I'd hesitate to call Phantasm garbage, but it's an utterly unmemorable horror film and it is astounding that the series warranted three sequels.

Shamefully, I've never seen Rio Bravo. I have a lot of gaps when it comes to the Howard Hawks canon.

After HALLOWEEN in particular, producers got the regrettable idea they could sequelize every single successful horror concept once a year as opposed to two, and run their idea into the ground every single Halloween. SAW is the worst example, though PHANTASM waited roughly ten years for its first weak follow-up.

Last year Angus Scrimm (the Tall Man from PHANTASM) appeared at a local horror convention, sitting next to Lance Henriksen. He looked remarkably like a hotel concierge.

RIO BRAVO, of course, is the all-time favorite of Quentin Tarantino's list........and the inspiration for ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13. But it was HIGH NOON which inspired RIO BRAVO....and Joseph McCarthy who inspired HIGH NOON.

Favorites as opposed to best....while using the AFI ''Best'' countdown-style. Favorites or bests, it's all open to debate.

The first time I saw HOT FUZZ, I thought ''hmmm.''
The second time: ''This is a comic masterpiece.'' Nothing like a little girl-on-girl. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!!!

CLOSER gets a place on the list due to its excellent script and the always excellent Clive Owen, who gets to tell off Julia Roberts in spectacular fashion,,,,while remaining married to her character.

Would you feel better if I promised you may not have seen the last of KING KONG?

What!? There are some good movies here...A League of Their Own she had very little impact...but Tom Hanks, Geena Davis...Madonna!? I would mention Rosie O'Donnell...but that isn't a selling point...Lori Petty? Still a damn fine film. I stick with 21-25.
