Silent Hill: Downpour discussion thread *spoilers*

I'd call myself a semi-hardcore fan. I've never played the original, but I love two and three. Couldn't finish part four, and never regained the interest to play it. I love Origins and Homecoming, but never played Shattered Memories. So out of seven games in the series I've really only beat four of them, still not a bad track record.

Anyways, I'm kind of interested in the new game coming out this October. According to the premise (and E3 trailer) you're a convict who's aboard a prison bus that runs off the road and you end up in Silent Hill. Outside of that I really have no idea what the game is about.

Besides that interesting premise, the biggest piece of news is that Akira Yamaoka isn't returning to do the score as he left Konami back in '09. This actually caused me alarm at first since it's his sound that is so associated with the series, however Daniel Licht the composer from Dexter has taken over. It will be interesting to see what he can contribute to the series.

All in all I'm rather excited. When they branch out and try to give us new storylines set within Silent Hill is when I respond the most (part two and Homecoming being stand out games for me), but when they go back to the well again and again I kind of roll my eyes (Origins and Shattered Memories trying to revisit the first game, though I do enjoy Origins).

Here's the most current trailer for the game:

Re: Anybody else eager to revisit Silent Hill with SH: Downpour?

I hate to do two posts in a row but it's not letting me put more than one video in my original thread.

Anyways, here's a video that has a sample of Daniel Licht's score:

I think it sounds interesting. Definitely sounds different, but at the same time it has that Silent Hill feel to it.

Re: Anybody else eager to revisit Silent Hill with SH: Downpour?

I'm looking forward to it despite the fact Akira Yamaoka isn't contributing his atmospheric music this time around. :( After Homecoming, my expectations are pretty small. Such a disappointment it was.

Re: Anybody else eager to revisit Silent Hill with SH: Downpour?

I've never played any of them after the original, I love the theme behind them but the gameplay in the trailer reminds me too much of Alan Wake's clumsy boring system.

I'm somewhat of a wuss, so I'm glad I'm able to make it through Dead Space on a good day.

Silent Hill is too damn creepy for me (as a game, that is - I had no troubles watching the movie) :D

Re: Anybody else eager to revisit Silent Hill with SH: Downpour?

I'm a little more lenient with the series now that Team Silent has disbanded and are no longer making the games.

I won't touch Shattered Memories though, it's no-combat game-play doesn't interest me at all.

I know Homecoming was reviled by many but I really took to it, though the combat took some getting used to (being a bit more complex than past SH games).

I'm stoked the collection will have 2 and 3, but why not the first game? Is it the fact that the first game requires more than just a bit of prettying up?

They'd have to remake the whole thing from the ground up. There's no way they'd put that much money into it.

Fair enough.

So Downpour comes out tomorrow. Anyone besides me going to be getting it? This thread is going to be very lonely otherwise :p

Well hopefully we can have a discussion about it then, because I don't think any of the other TrekBBS'ers are going to be getting it :p

I've played it for about 46 minutes, not very far into the game (haven't encountered any enemies yet), still a bit undecided on it. It's weird not having that familiar music from Akira Yamaoka, yet even without him the music does strike an air of familiarity.
