I sincerely doubt this. Why would "the authorities involved" ask
you to do anything? Who are
you that they'd single you out as their official representative?
I am also well aware that many of the fans involved in these matters have already been asked by the authorities (including the German authorities) to cease their activities and are refusing to believe they need to do so. Hence the decision having been made to put up this post.
Right, because the anonomous postings of another fan with only the unsubstantiated claim of authority, posting on a message board, is far more convincing than official communications from the actual legal representatives of the various law enforcement communities involved.
I can assure them that these are not tactics or game playing.
And I can assure you that they are. In fact, I've been authorized by the highest of authorities to assure everyone that this is game playing.
These matters are currently before the courts and have been for some weeks. Arrests have already been made whether you have heard about them on-line or not. There is a suppression order covering aspects of this situation and the media are respecting that. As matters proceed, news of these matters will be able to be reported but for the time being that is not the case.
Arrests have been made? Pull the other one. And for what crime? Better still: Link?
Wonderful to see so many still care enough about *Star Trek* to put such passion in their posts!
Allow me to put it to you this way.
If it was related to you or concerned you, you would know about it. As it obviously doesn't then you do not have to be worried.
If you are concerned or involved then contact those authorities involved as stated in the original post.
CBS and the relevant bodies know who I am and why I am being asked to explain these matters to the fans and pass on the legal information as much as we are able to.
Suffice to say that I am a Writer-Producer who works with CBS on a number of productions. As such I work behind the scenes on *Star Trek* and it is part of my responsibilities to deal with this very delicate situation and circumstances.
I am sorry the information is not available for you to consider as yet but that is all in the hands of the courts and they will decide what goes public and when.
Teacake, nobody is asking people not to have normal discussions but one of the difficulties the courts have been encountering is that the very fans who have been asked by the authorities to stop causing problems for the cast and crew, have not done so. This actually places those fans in a Contempt of Court situation and nobody wants this situation to get more serious than it already is.
Apparently the fans concerned regard all of this as a massive game and nothing anyone has said to them has been able to get across to them that it is not and they need to stop. It has entered very serious areas of concern and crossed legal boundaries.
All we can do is warn people to please be aware that legalities are ensuing and to please refrain from conducting any activities that may possibly be considered as potentially intrusive to the actors lives or careers. i.e. please no climbing over the fences of their houses to take photos of the windows or taking actions such as attempting to alter their hotel bookings at conventions by pretending to be their agents. Only two examples but hopefully you can see that it is the extreme end of behaviors we are asking everybody to refrain from.
In other words, please do not accidentally implicate yourselves while the authorities sort out the situations they are working on. The concern is that we do not want any of the genuine fans being blamed for things they have not been responsible for.
If you have not been contacted by your local authorities (wherever you are in the world) then it is not your problem and you are not involved. You do not need to be concerned.
There is no restriction on any fan activity or even criticism, merely a desire to protect the real fans from getting flack or being blamed for the extreme actions of a few who are spoiling a great many things for others.

The point is that we know what is going on in the Courts and everyone involved is keen to deal with the situation with the least difficulty or disruption for the fans and their enjoyment.
On the other hand...given that I have been asked to post here, indicates to you that CBS is busily at work behind the scenes creating something new for *Star Trek*. In particular aiming towards the 50th anniversary! But if we can get these legal issues dealt with and out of the way, maybe we can look at ways of introducing aspects of the new *Star Trek* developments sooner.
Oh BTW, I'm not here as a fan (although I am one). I'm here on the forum because I am a Writer-Producer involved with CBS and *Star Trek*. While we've been developing things I've been keeping an eye on what the fans wanted so we could make sure we created something especially suited to as many of you as possible.
Hence why we've been testing lots of things to see how you liked them and how they performed in marketing terms. i.e. Beta versions. BTW, I never did find out what you all thought of the perfumes?
I've also been getting around to conventions whenever I have been able to and in fact saw Teacake in Melbourne Australia when she went to see Kate Mulgrew and Tim Russ.
Sat just down the row from her actually.
We've been working on these new plans since 2000 so we're pretty sure what we've got is exactly what the fans have been looking for. We really want to get this right!
And both past and present *Star Trek* cast and crew and personnel have all been sworn to secrecy which is why they have all been very good at not even giving out hints! I am very proud of them all for the way they have kept their mouths shut even though they've had to endure endless messages from me over a very long time!
They are a very kind and patient bunch I can assure you!
We'll all get through this! It's merely one of those glitches every mature franchise has to go through as they head for 50 years of success!
Or would you prefer I announced all of this and revealed it at another forum and to another group of fans?
We've been waiting for an opportune moment and this seems as good as any!
