I think my girlfriend is a Christian! Advice needed.

I don't know if that will work with my new state of mind. I'd always be asking myself questions like "how could Noah's Arc be real?" and "what about other religions like Indians have and like Thor and stuff like that people used to believe in?" I can't stop asking questions.

I tell you what, if she won't have you I will.

I should have checked a theosaurus.
Now there's a fossil that would believe in a deity! :)

"how could Noah's Arc be real?"
So, we're gonna get Noah in this as well?! Sweet! I'd really like to know what his arc is, aside from getting pissy drunk and showing off his gentleman's area to the kids. Or something.

So, is this a continuation or a reboot? And will the fans of the original say it's not as good, while the noobs will say it's great and the original was badly acted or something. And then the flame wars will begin. And the endless dissections of scenes/posts.

Eeeeeeexcelleeeeent...

The problem isn't the religion, the problem is the evangelical part. There are also evangelical vegans, tree-huggers, non-smokers, anti-alcoholics, leftists, rightist, racists, Trekkies. It's impossible to be in a relationship with any of them.

You forgot atheists.

From Serenity:

River Tam: Noah's ark is a problem... I'll have to call it early quantum state phenomenon. Only way to fit 5000 species of mammal on the same boat.

She must think I'm weird because of the way I've been acting around her lately and I know she's not the kind of girl to suffer fools for long. :(
I believe that this may be a greater impediment to this relationship than the Christian thing.

yeah, Dawkins is IMO about as dangerous as Al Qaeda.
Lulz.

Feel free to disagree with this sentiment, but for Pete's sake, do not post about it here, because all it will cause will be furious argument, and we don't want that.
The irony of this is... no, not delicious. Kind of bland, really.

I may have overstated certain things, as I do have a talent for that, but it's the fact that most of his followers these days are not evolutionary biologists - it's evangelical atheists who want all religious people gone or converted to their belief. Is that so much different from militant Christians or muslims? Just the belief in question is changed, replaced with something that does indeed sound logical (science), but that's why it's IMO so dangerous - because it's a prejudice that uses a fair sounding subjects as its facade.

If militant atheists are not killing people yet it's either because it's "yet", or because it will go out of fashion before it gets out of control.

I don't think it's fair to say Dawkings is like Al Qaeda. He might come across as a jerk but that's just because he's sick of people sending him hate mail. I saw a video who did where he had a big bonfire with the letters and stood in front of the flames like the Devil (if he was real), it was funny. Also remember he is a proper scientist who has studied the human body. Al Qaeda don't believe in science. I think that's why they haven't developed the atom bomb yet, thankfully.

Oh I know where he's coming from and why's doing what he's doing. It's... understandable to be bitter, but when you start intruding other people's lives out of your bitterness, you need to stop. That's what's happening with what I call "dawkinsism" - atheists who don't just sit in their homes and think God may not exist after all (I can sympathise with those), atheists who proclaim that all religion must be abolished - which a statement as strong and foolish as "all religion but Christianity must be abolished". I mean people who actively pursue destruction of all religion, and actively step on my toes to butt their agenda into my life.

I would also like to thank everyone for remaining fairly civil despite the difficult problem at hand and my overstated statement.

I see what you did there. ;)

There are indeed evangelical atheists. Dawkings is one of them, but he is still a mild case compared to others.

Sigh. This season is going downhill rapidly.

How long until MB and Christian!Girl find the hatch? Finding hatches usually picks things up quite nicely.

The OP was so odd...you guys yelled at each other in the hallway from time to time till you realized there was sexual attraction??

RAMA

It wasn't all shouting, that was just the first time. It was mostly just ambiguous glances and gestures after that. It could have gone either way but thankfully it ended with mutual attraction!

As for the deal with Underworld, first of all that movie mostly sucked and Kate Beckinsale's physical attributes can be better appreciated in other movies most recently "Contraband."

Woah, she did nudity in Contraband? Why did no one tell me! I was boycotting that because of what Mark Wallberg said about 911, but I'll have to see it now.

So being a Christian is automatically an evil thing, how ironic.

No one said evil. Only a small number of Christians are evil. Maybe only 15%. It's just that I wouldn't be able to respect her beliefs, knowing what I know. Maybe if she let me explain everything to her and then if after that she was still able to come up with a convincing argument for why she's a Christian it could be okay with us. I don't know, it's an option to consider. But she'd have to be very convincing.

Anyway, I didn't have any classes today so I didn't see her, but I text messaged her from work. I asked her what was up. She text back asking if I wanted to help her at the church again tomorrow. With everything weighing on my mind, I almost came out and asked her if she was a Christian via text, but I deleted it at the last moment as I thought maybe it wasn't the best way to do it. Instead, in answer to her question of if I want to come to help her tomorrow, I texted "if you BELIEVE I should I will!" I thought that was quite good. But she just texted back that I was "being weird." So I had to end up just texting "okay, I'll help you tomorrow."

I definitely think I'll confront her tomorrow at the church! Thanks for all the advice, it helps having people to talk to.
