THE HOBBIT (2012/2013): News, Rumors, Pics Till Release

Travellers Tales, the studio behind the games, put together a tech demo for LEGO Hobbit about three years ago, long before LEGO even had the LotR license. I'd like to think that that might have motivated LEGO to pursue the license. :)
Ohhh, I really really hope they do a game.

Something about Nic Cage screams "he doesn't belong in any movie set in the past or a medieval like fantasy setting". There's just something too modern about him. He could do something set in the future though.

Slightly off topic, but Nicolas Cage was almost in Lord of the Rings. :wtf:

The transcript doesn't elaborate on what role he was considered for because it was fan submitted question interview. All I have to say thank god he turned it down.

On the other hand, he would have fit it in perfectly in The Matrix...

Could've been great. I'm pretty sure the awesomeness of a Nicholas Cage performance is directly proportional to the ridiculousness of the wig he wears.

Billy Connolly Joining cast

Peter Jackson has set the final piece for his two-picture adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit. Billy Connolly has joined the cast in the role of Dain Ironfoot, a great dwarf warrior and cousin of Thorin Oakenshield. “We could not think of a more fitting actor to play Dain Ironfoot, the staunchest and toughest of Dwarves, than Billy Connolly, the Big Yin himself. With Billy stepping into this role, the cast of The Hobbit is now complete. We can’t wait to see him on the Battlefield!”

I hope they include a flashback of the War of Dwarves and Orcs. Dain and Thorin play big roles in that.
Azog, who led the Orcs in that war, has apparently been cast, so it does sound like we'll be getting a flashback to it. Probably something akin to how they handled the War of the Last Alliance in LOTR.

My dad's been a fan of Billy Connolly since the 1970s - he'll love seeing Billy in The Hobbit!

Isn't this a bit late to be casting people? This film's been in production for months already. Is it possible Billy's replacing someone?

Alex

Dain's part doesn't come until late in the story, so it's probable that they didn't need to cast him until now.

Wow, this is awesome news. I've loved everything I've seen him in.

I didn't think it was possible, but I'm looking forward to these films all the more!

He was funny in the 1970s, hasn't been funny in years. And he's turned into a total prima-donna. Walked offstage last week because he got heckled, made tasteless jokes about the hostage Ken Bigley while he was awaiting beheading in Iraq, then took the hump when audience members objected. Tosser.
