So long, George

What a whiner. If I created Star Wars I wouldn't care what people nitpicked and whine about it. It is my creation and if I want to make some long eared donkey looking thing and name it Jar Jar then I will dang well do it! It is obvious these crybabies spent money on the movies because he is a billionaire and if he made the last three in the trilogy and had Jar Jar running around with a diaper on his head while X-wings shot lasers at Tie Fighters then he would make billions more.

Ironic, I say that most of Lucas' bashers are the real whiners and crybabies.

George is unfortunately a bit like Roddenberry. Both had great initial ideas, but need other creative people to flesh them out and make them work.

From Cracked.com:6 Pop Culture Visionaries Who Get Too Much Credit

Both Roddenberry and Lucas are on the list. Along with, among others, Stan Lee, JJ Abrahms and Matt Groening.

So basically everybody who was ever anybody is overrated...

Yes. Because those half dozen people mentioned in the article as "overrated" are the only creators in the entire history of pop culture.

I was very surprised (I hadn't been following the story of this film very closely) to find out today that Aaron McGruder of the "Boondocks" cowrote this film.

I've seen more hate directed at George Lucas for making movies than I've seen directed at bin Laden who plotted the deaths of thousands.

Well, to be fair, we got Bin Laden, while George Lucas remains at large.

Yeah, saw the advance reviews of Red Tails. This bums me out, as I was looking forward to it.

But will still see it, as always, make up my own mind.

I like a good WW2 movie. And I do want to support films not catering to the default Hollywood "money" gestault. They do not know everything, no matter what their acccountants claim, waving their math and spreadsheets around.

Those assclowns gave us "Car 54 The Movie".

Definitely.

I read a comment a while ago where one person said "I will never forgive Lucas for the prequels." I mean, get a grip!

I agree with this, it definitely get out of hand. I was even guilty of some of that, I must admit, back in the day. However...you do look at the prequels and compare them to the originals, whatever "magic" the OT captured, and it most certainly did, the PT was a mere shadow of. I enjoyed them, but they aren't the classics the OT were, for reasons most are aware of.

If there are more SW movies, I hope he isn't the guy. And on the coming SW TV series, I also hope he isn't the one making the storytellign decisions or writing the scripts.

Lucas' strength now, and probably always has been, producer and idea guy, overall conceptualist. Exec producer, IOW.

The only thing I can't "forgive" Lucas for (and that's putting it more strongly than I feel) is his insistence on messing with the original three films.

Agreed. While I think the personal attacks on Lucas have been ridiculous, I think the criticism of him as a filmmaker is valid. The changes into the SE's are fair game. Not having Han be a guy who shoots first goes against the character as portrayed in ANH. If Han's that decent a guy at the beginning of ANH, it cheapens his selfless decision to return and help Luke at the end of the movie. Marring a brilliant scene like Vader saving Luke is another...the scene worked perfectly as it was. You could see the conflict on Vader's face, which is impressive considering he was wearing a mask. You don't need to be told that he's struggling with his decision. Show, don't tell.

At the same time too, The Clone Wars series has shown how GL can still be involved with a good SW product. Lucas is definitely involved in the series, make no mistake. But others write it and he had a strong director in Dave Filoni. As a result, the show has been excellent.

Looks like Red Tails had a better-than-expected week, grossing over $19 million at the box office. The critical reviews might have been poor but audience response has been great. If they can produce another strong week, it'll bode very well for the movie.

Not only that, but it prematurely telegraphs his conflict and possible intentions to Palpatine. Just a crap decision all the way around. Someone on another site theorized it was done purely out of spite. Obviously one can't prove such a thing, but it kind of feels like it.

Precisely. I've said for years it would have better for Lucas to have simply remade episodes 4-6 (to match his vision of the prequels) instead of messing with the originals.

If he would simply release the originals at the quality level of every other current DVD and Bluray release, I would be happier than a pig in mud.

Buncha freakin' whiners when it comes to Lucas, man. I left cause of this, and i see things haven't changed a bit. Lucas could announce episodes 7, 8, and 9 tomorrow as a suprise, and everyone here would be like...noooooos!!! Dont direct it! He sucks! I see a world with Star Wars 78& 9, written by George Lucas.....Directed by Micheal Bay. Come on. You know it'd be the shiznit. It would make trillions, you'd all go see it multiple times, then come back here and complain about it.

And he's right, everyone here would go see it. Probably multiple times.
"I was first line in and I hated it, I was sooooo let down and disappointed. And then, just to be sure how much I hated it and why, I went and saw it 3 more times the following weekend" :rommie:

"And I only bought the Blu Ray to be ironic and make fun of it."

I thought the correct answer was

"I only bought the Blu Ray so I could have ESB in HD?" :p
