Sherlock - Series 2

I'm a big fan of Sherlock Holmes, I've read many of his adventures written by Conan Doyle and I've watched all the movies related to Sherlock. When I had first seen this title I thought it will be another screening of Sherlock's adventures, this time on a new TV Series. I really hope the show will go on because you can't get bored watching it.

Apart from the utterly sucky cliffhanger resolution, that was brilliant. Thoroughly loved it, and Irene Adler was definitely sexy.

I did figure out the phone code and final twist though. Would have been 10/10 if not for that "cliffhanger resolution" at the start...

Damnit! I figured out 1895 and 221B but the real passcode completely eluded me.

The cliffhanger resolution is forgiveable when you realize that it was quite possibly Irene Adler who was calling and Moriarty came up with the whole plan in seconds. Impressive.

Ah, yes, I forgot about this point. I immediately figured Irene was the one on the phone which allowed me to accept the silliness of the resolution.

It was absolutely fantastic for me. I loved everything about it, even the silly resolution to the cliffhanger as fans on the net have come up with almost every possible combination for it, and that's the one I haven't read anywhere. Like the first series, there were so many little nods to the canon that I was squee-ing almost every minute. LOVED IT!

I quite enjoyed that. There were times in the middle when I through things were getting a little too convoluted but I'm glad to say my fears were unfounded and I like the final product. I especially like the twist ending, I'm a sap for happy endings :)

Some utterly cracker lines!

Sherlock: "As a private detective the last thing they need is a public image", he says, as he pulls on a deer stalker.

Lestrade: "Give Sherlock Holmes five minutes on your crime scene and listen to everything he has to say, and as far as possible try not to punch him."

Irene Adler is an absolute cracker, in all senses of the word. She's a bad, bad girl. I like her.

"Recreational scolding". :guffaw:

Watson: "I always hear punch me in the face when you're speaking but it's usually subtext".

Watson: "You should remember Sherlock, I was a soldier, I killed people!"
Holmes: "You were a doctor!"
Watson: "I had bad days!"

The script is utterly and completely audacious, but works and works and works. Just when you think it'll fail, BAM! it comes right back at you. Like the laughing sequence in the Palace.

Adler: "I know [X]. Well, I know what he likes."

Want that ring tone. Perhaps. :D

What struck me was how much Cumberbatch & Gatiss really do look like brothers, especially in profile.

Wonderful twist on the line from Moriarty: "Dear Me Mr Holmes, dear me!" (in its original story it was a telegram to the other one).

I'm a fan of both the Cumbermatch version and the RDJ version. I believe both are the best, most interesting portrayals of the legendary detective. I also love Freeman and Jude Law's portrayals of Dr. Watson and the way they don't make him look like a bumbling idiot or an ant in Sherlock's shadow.

I'd have to go with Jeremy Brett's potrayal as the definitive version.

For me the bigger problem is that I just can't get past what a terrible actor the guy playing Moriarty.

^ I do have to agree with you on that. An even camper version of john Simm's Master? What couldn't be better.

A lot actually.

Although he did have one rather amusing bit where he blew a raspberry at the floating text that he was sending to Holmes (senior). Supposed supercriminal? Nope, over the top manchild.

Oh my Gods that was an amazing episode. I hope they make at least one more series. This is a big step up. Gotta say they nailed the romance story between Sherlock and Irene which I felt was poorly done in the RDJ Movie. Can't wait till next week!

Loved it, and the reveal of what the phone code actually was made me laugh out loud. Bit convoluted in places, and the start did feel like one hell of a cheat, but in hindsight it all made sense (guessing Moriarty didn't kill Holmes as he knew he'd need him to crack the code...or maybe it was just a rubbish cliffhanger resolution!) Nice to see a lot of Mycroft in this, was it just me or did Watson kinda go missing for the final third? I hope this was intentional rather than Freeman needing to be in New Zealand!

Loved the Deer Stalker!

Yeah, when this Moriarty showed up comparisons between john Simm's The Master popped up.

Now I wait for Moriarty to push Sherlock in a wheelchair while "Scissor Sisters" play.

The difference is John Simm's *good* - this guy feels like "well he's the closest we could get after Simm refused/we couldn't get Simm/whatever"

Now I wonder about Moffat's "The Master" and how he'd be portrayed

They've already used up the maniac personality twice

-The Doctor Who Master

-Moriarty

I guess after Simms leaves The Master would have to be seriously subdued.

Never mind all that. I'm still trying to figure out what sort of accent hes supposed to be doing.

I don't think it's bad acting on the actor's part, but bad acting by Moriarty, to confuse Holmes.

I'd say he's purposely mixing up several accents in order to throw Holmes off, and creating a huge mess of mannerisms and campy gestures for the same reason, giving Sherlock nothing to latch on to and deduce about him. Much like Irene Addler's "disguise".

I just got round to watching it on iplayer as I had to go out last night.

Brilliant, and I don't say that lightly. Absolutely bloody brilliant. I love the books and love the character of Holmes, so went into the first series with low expectations but was delighted with the outcome. This series, however, I went into it with sky-high expectations (and having avoided any spoilers despite not seeing it last night) and I can honestly say I felt those expectations were exceeded in every respect. I can't think of another TV show where that's happened. Seriously awesome TV.

There wasn't a moment I wasn't enjoying what I watched on screen and I found myself laughing out loud in sheer delight at several junctures. What makes the show so wonderful is that the writers - and actors - absolutely "get" Sherlock's absolute need to solve a puzzle, the pressure he puts on himself in order to solve it, and the ecstasy of self-satisfaction when he does. That shines through in every scene.

Delightful.

I completely disagree about Moriarty and the actor. I think Moriarty cultivates an air of sophistication, but underneath is a sheer, awful madness, that bursts through every now and then, no matter how he tries to hold it in check, and he is amused nonetheless. And the actor delivers that. The line, "I will... burn... you..." gave me the creeps first time I heard it.
