Sherlock - Series 2

Thankfully not the resolution I feared, but still a really shit one.

Bluntly - WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T HE JUST KILL THEM?

Has he not read the Evil Overlord Manual? I mean, seriously, FFS...

Still, what did we expect from the makers of DW season 6, with it's oh-so perfect cliffhanger "resolutions"....

Rest of it seems OK so far, thank fuck.

Moffat's channeling Murdoch Mysteries and the RDJ movie this week...

(note, this isn't a criticism or complaint! I'm finding it cool and funny)

Apart from the utterly sucky cliffhanger resolution, that was brilliant. Thoroughly loved it, and Irene Adler was definitely sexy.

I did figure out the phone code and final twist though. Would have been 10/10 if not for that "cliffhanger resolution" at the start...

Apart from the utterly sucky cliffhanger resolution, that was brilliant. Thoroughly loved it, and Irene Adler was definitely sexy.

Just finished watching it (we paused it for a bit at one point) and we both really liked it, the other half hasn't seen the previous series, so she was slightly lost, although we watched the first RDJ film last night in anticipation for the new one next weekend and she says that helped.

Both that and watching Sherlock tonight have made me think of reading some of the Conan-Doyle stories at some point soon.

Anyway, Lara Pulver was utterly good damn gorgeous and I was bit upset by the watershad and lack of "proper nakedness" on that front, she was rather underused on Spooks.

I thought Mycroft's "Coventry" solution was clever, as for the cliff hanger, I thought what happened may happen given his and Watson's conversation in the cafe.

And the christmas party bit was rather fun and cringe worthy at the same time.

Did anyone else notice Irene and her "PAs" conversation towards the beginning of the episode was very similar to Jenny and Madam Vastra's from A Good Man Goes to War.

On a final note, that text tone was amazing!

So yeah, I thought it was rather good.

Think they went a little overboard, the Bond flight, 007, I am Sherlocked, knowing her measurements from just looking, etc. But still enjoyed it.

^ With some jiggery pokery and using Audacity, I'm sure I could do it.

I'm not sure if I'd want to replace the TARDIS re/de-materialising though, although, at the behest of the girlfriend, I did change that from the Red Alert siren!

So what exactly did happen to her at the end? I was a bit confused lol.

She didn't die. Sherlock was there and saved her and faked her death.

Really? Ah it wasnt just an hallucination then or a dream? lol

Given it had been signposted just a few minutes earlier with Mycroft and Watson's conversation in the cafe and the fact he was reading a text like we all do when we know what was happening when we got that text, nope, certainly wasn't an hallucination and given he was awake and standing up, not a dream or vision or some such either.

Fantastic stuff overall. Loved its humour, wit and ingenuity. Hopefully the second episode / TV movie won't suffer too much by comparison.

In the infamous words of John Locke (the bald one): "We're gonna need to watch that again."

Bloody brilliant from beginning to end. I must admit my expectations for Irene Adler were pretty high considering how much I love Rachel McAdams and her take on the character, but I have to say I was utterly wowed by Lara Pulver. I must admit I was disappointed and a bit surprised when she was "killed" (the first time) so I wasn't at all surprised when she returned. However, as thrilled as I am about her possibly returning in a future episode and the clever foreshadowing ("I would only be fooled by Sherlock"), I have to say I found the ending was a bit too much. Whatever, it's still a brilliant episode that I can't wait to watch again.

Best line of the whole damn thing:

"He will outlive God, trying to have the last word."

Great episode as always. The interplay between Sherlock and Irene was downright seductive and I was delighted by the twist at the end. I hope she comes back. Maybe in the final episode of this series. She could be the one who helps Sherlock fake his death.

I'm sad that Watson's girlfriend didn't last past last series. I really hope one day John finds his Mrs. Watson, someone who won't back down even from the great Sherlock Holmes like the Mrs. Watson of the RDJ movies.

I was happy that Sherlock and Watson went to Mrs. Hudson's defense when Mycroft told her to shut up and I was even more happy when Sherlock kicked that agent's ass for laying a hand on our beloved landlady.

I love the focus on the other characters of the show. Moments of Sherlock and Mycroft's sparring brotherly relationship that has an undercurrent of genuine care for each other. Mrs. Hudson revealing herself to be tougher and cleverer than she looks. Molly standing up to Sherlock for his rude treatment of her (Sherlock, we love you but you can be rather dense at times.) And I love the Christmas gathering scene at Baker Street. You get the sense these characters other than Watson's new date are the closest thing Sherlock has to a family outside of his brother and mother.

I do wonder why Sherlock is still a virgin or detaches him from sexual relationships. The whole deal about Mycroft saying that the pain of loss, the joy of redemption, and the puzzle is so textbook of Sherlock. Does this have to do with Sherlock's past? Will we learn more about Sherlock's past? I do want to see Sherlock's mother and know some details about Sherlock's father who I feel played a major role in the development of the man Sherlock Holmes is today.

That was cool on a stick! Very, very, very good!

Which raises a question: given the previous season of Who, which I enjoyed but thought overly complicated and flabby in places, would it be better if Moffatt handed it to someone else and concentrated on Sherlock, make a 6 ep season?
