I would hope nothing in cinema could be as bad. I hope time wil prove me wrong or right.
I think it's pretty certain that time will prove you wrong or right.

Although I personally find both Uhura's immensley attractive, I only found the possiblity of romance in TOS to be credible. It was never suggested that Spock was a former teacher of hers in TOS.
The character of Spock would have never allowed himself to become involved with a student of his no matter how talented her tongue was.
With that said I can't say as I blame JJSpock, buuuuttt.......
'was I not one of your top students?'
When Uhura discovers just how small a thing it really is, this relationship won't last.
What about all those Spock-Saavik stories?

Since Saavik could be nothing more than a toddler in 2258, there's a pretty high 'eww' factor there.![]()

Well, it's not like Sarek wasn't robbing the cradle when he married Amanda . . . considering their relative ages!
I think Spock-Saavik was brought up when someone said TOS Spock would never get involved with a student or subordinate. Although, they did get in on under ....unusual... circumstances, to say the least. And when they married (in the novel "Vulcan's Heart", it was about half a century later, after Spock had left Starfleet (still totally icky, IMO, even though that novel's not in the same continuity as "The Pandora Principle", where Spock rescues, names and civilizes Saavik)
Btw, I think Spock/Uhura was just fine. Good match, good for them. I can't quite see them them being a permanent item, though. The question is: Were they involved in the prime universe, either just before or at the start of TOS? (*cue someone's JJ-hating TOSser nerd rage*)

What was YOUR first reaction?
Plus, as much as I love and lust after Nichell, I'd much rather see Zoe do the fan dance.Hehe , my first thought was 'Wow so much a better match for her than Scotty from STV" (Still get the shudders with that one :P)
