Maybe Weller plays one of the guys funding the Augment project which created Khan. He then serves as a mentor to Khan sort of a father figure. Assuming khan's in the movie and Weller plays a CEO like these rumors say.

Saavik in STIII and Cochrane in First Contact make it abundantly clear that a character can be totally rewritten without it having anything to do with parallel timelines. If, for example, Khan's found and thawed by the Klingons shortly after the Kelvin is destroyed, the next 25 years of Khan's life are gonna be different enough to justify just about anything.

What's keeping him from reprising his role as Paxton? He'd be pushing the upper limits of even a fictional human's lifespan and 140ish years but...

Well, he'd actually be the same as in Space Seed. He won't be the same as he was in TWOK unless and until he's 15-odd years older and has watched his beloved and his friends die on a desert planet, thus allowing him to become increasingly obsessed with revenge on Jim Kirk.

I think that'd be a little too close to Shinzon territory. But I can see Khan as a secret puppet master, running (or influencing) the Klingon Empire from the shadows. Perhaps the mentor of Kirk's Klingon rival, setting up Kirk vs. Khan in STXIII.

Assuming Khan's in this and the story somehow deals with the Augments, I wonder if they'll get Brent Spiner to play either a decrepit Arik Soong, one of Soong's offspring, or Noonien Soong's father?

Khan wanted revenge against Kirk, because he stranded him in a hell hole for 20+ years. JJTrek is reliving the Kirk years on the Enterprise. Why would Khan be vengeful to Kirk before Kirk stranded him? I could understand if you said he'd possibly be exactly the same as he was in Space Seed, but, not ST:WoK

If I had to add speculation to what Weller's character could be, I would include the possibility of Gary Seven. It is no secret the Orci is a huge fan of Trek literature and Seven was a supporting character to Khan in our very own Greg Cox's Eugenic's Wars novels (and his role is assumed to be the major "supporting" character to the villain in the new film.) Weller kind of looks like Gary Seven, and when his role was described as a "C.E.O." by EW, I imagined a guy in a "suit" admittedly.

But that's just my own speculation only, based on very limited info of course.

While it’s highly unlikely, he's probably following Kurtwood Smith and playing another entirely different character - there is a built-in way for John Frederick Paxton to still be around 100 years later. Paxton wasn’t true to his ideals of being a pure human. He was born with one of the diseases Colonel Green used as an excuse to exterminate WWIII survivors. Paxton would get the shakes, and was revealed to be prolonging his life with Rigellian gene therapy. So a double hippocrite. He was a C.E.O. of a corporation of an off world mining operation, while 'moonlighting' as the leader of a xenophobic underground movement.

Like Archer’s mixing blood with those Klingons, infected in a way that removed their ridges… You have to wonder what the side effects of swapping chromosomes actually are. With few exceptions (Kes), most of the races in Star Trek seem to live more than twice our current lifespan. Even Klingons, who you would expect to live fast and die young, seem to go on and on, if they're successful (or is it failed?) warriors.

He's also not the main villain apparently. That'll be someone TOS familiar. But while they've kind of let the cat out of the bag with who Del Toro was, they're now being more cagey about Weller. He's a mentor for the big bad it seems though.

I dunno. C.E.O. Maybe he's gonna be Leslie Moonves in space. Best place for him IMO!

Weller could be playing Kodos. I read sometime ago, that plans were to cast Jimmy Bennett (Kirk as a child) in the next movie. He'll turn 15 during the filming of the movie. It's quite possible that they will incorporate TOS Kirk's experiences on Tarsus IV into this movie.
