Peter Weller joins Star Trek Sequel cast

Re: Peter Weller joins Star Strek Sequel cast

Interesting. Is he the first person, apart from Leonard Nimoy obviously, to appear in a prime-timeline story and nu-Trek?

Well, his "prime-timeline" story actually happens in both timelines anyway, since Enterprise is the shared history of both.

Re: Peter Weller joins Star Strek Sequel cast

I really hope Khan is NOT in the sequel.

What's the fucking point of rebooting the film series if you're just gonna go back and rehash the same characters each time?

Re: Peter Weller joins Star Strek Sequel cast

I love me some Weller. Rumor has it that he'll be playing Dr. Banzai. ;)

This is one of the few times that I wish a joke post were really true. Hey, Yoyodyne helped build the Enterprise-D, so why not? :)

Anyway, I'm greatly looking forward to more Weller-related news now.

Like Kirk and Spock? Or Batman, The Joker, Superman, Zod...

Re: Peter Weller joins Star Strek Sequel cast

Kirk and Spock were necessary to the whole point of rebooting the films.

Point taken though, re: the Joker and Zod.

Like any other franchise it has its iconic characters and there no real reason not to include them.

Peter Weller is awesome. This is great news.

And engineer Olsen was a Cardassian!?! How did I not know this!!??

I'd say look for an appearance of the oscillation overthruster, except for the fact that that gag's been done a few times already. I wouldn't rule out some sort of wink to Banzai/Yoyodyne, etc., though

Re: Peter Weller joins Star Strek Sequel cast

Am I the only one bothered by so many guest stars? I'd hate to see the rest of the big seven pushed down to bit parts, like say, most of the TNG cast in the TNG movies?

Nothing against Weller personally, mind you.

Well, FC had Alice Krige, James Cromwell and Alfre Woodard and it turned out all right. TUC had Christopher Plummer, David Warner, Iman.

So far we have Alice Eve (not really a superstar), Peter Weller (I'd put him on a par with say Anthony Zerbe from INS in terms of star power these days) and Benicio Del Toro. It's not exactly an all-star epic cast.

The last one had Eric Bana, Winona Ryder, Bruce Greenwood and Leonard Nimoy. I never had the feeling the big 7 were pused down to bit parts.

Re: Peter Weller joins Star Strek Sequel cast

I just read the awesome news! :D

The only question now is: Romulan, Klingon, or Insane Starfleet Admiral?

If you can make them the basis of a strong, gripping story, it's a good thing.

And the reboot wasn't just about the story. It was about getting the advantage of "name" characters to boost the odds of box-office success while also clearing the field for new adventures where the outcome is not preordained and doing as much as possible to mollify current fans who would be outraged if the timeline were swept away entirely.

That's three very complex challenges, wrapped up in one package. I think they did good.

Anyway, Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems exists in the 24th C. They had a branch office on DS9's Promenade, between Odo's security office and Tom Servo's Used Robots. :D

Yep.

No.

Oops, I forgot about Sheppard. My bad. :alienblush:

As for Khan: The split between prime/Abramsverse doesn't - supposedly - occur until the destruction of the Kelvin. So one of two things will happen.

1) Khan will be exactly the same as he was in ST II, in which case they wouldn't bother doing this; or

2) the Abramsverse is confirmed as NOT being just a new timeline which splits off, but an already existing parallel universe - which Spock Prime and Nero reached via the black hole - which a lot of people (myself included) thought anyway. So no big deal, really! :)

And I like the idea of Weller playing Garth of Izar. Doesn't even have to be insane this time (the disaster that made him that way might not have even happened in the Abramsverse). So we could see Garth in his prime, pardon the pun.

Re: Peter Weller joins Star Strek Sequel cast

I assume he'll be playing the older adviser to the main villain mentioned in earlier articles.

Or Robert April. :shifty:

Re: Peter Weller joins Star Strek Sequel cast

He'd make a good Garth of Izar, IMO...

I've been thinking/ hoping Garth would be used in this movie. Losing Del Toro and maybe having Khan is making me lose interest in this movie. Weller being on board does help though.

Re: Peter Weller joins Star Strek Sequel cast

I'm a little surprised as I thought the production team had preferred to not use people who had been involved in previous Trek series before with the exception of voices and Nimoy of course.
