2011 NFL Season - A New Game

The highest quality one should be Pittsburg vs Baltimore. Those are always fun, hard hitting games that very rarely get out of hand for one side or the other.

Which game would you suggest is the best/most interesting for me to watch this afternoon - Pittsburg v Baltimore, Atlanta v Chicago, Philadelphia v St. Louis?

I'll be watching Philly v. St. Louis, but the answer is Pittsburgh v. Baltimore. Intense rivals, both desperately want to win the game and hate each other. It'll likely be a bit on the defensive side, though.

Happy Opening Day Everyone

May the 49ers not suck as hard as they did the last few years, even though I think everyone agrees that this 49er/Seahawk game is the worst game of the week.

Not especially low-scoring in Baltimore today. ;)

eta: lol, looks like the Ravens are going for total humiliation now. wtf did they do that 2p conversion now?

Well, this was an interesting morning. There was no way I expected the Ravens to trounce the Steelers as badly as they did.... it was an entertaining game, but didn't go down how I was expecting. Wasn't expecting the Bears to beat the Falcons the way they did either. I expected the Colts to have issues today, but wasn't ready for them to look that bad. And with the Bills blowing up the Chiefs, it's probably safe to assume that they aren't repeating as the AFC West champs.

So let's see...

A bad loss at home full of penalties and missed opportunities.

6 dropped passes, a turnover run back for a touchdown, and a missed field goal.

Sam Bradford, Steven Jackson, and Danny Amendola all injured.

Yeah, today was great. Just fucking great.

:scream::scream::scream:

Is it just me, or is the quality of kickoff returns better with the new rule? All the games I've seen since Thursday, either portions of them or in their entirety, have had monster kickoff returns, including a lot of TD returns. Is anyone else noticing this? Obviously, less kickoffs are coming out, but it seems like the ones that do are going for a lot more yards than they did in the past..... it's almost like the kicking teams are slouching because they don't expect a return and the returners are catching them asleep at the wheel.

It might also have something to do with the fact that coverage teams aren't allowed a running start anymore. At least, I think they aren't...

^You're right.... coverage teams aren't allowed to be more than 5 yards from the ball, which will stall their start if they want to avoid being offsides.

Have a minute Ted Ginn Jr. That was freaking awesome, and it helped my fantasy team (49ers defense) quite a bit. Good stuff. I still see stuff from the Singletary era in the offense, but the Defense and special teams look very good. I still don't have confidence in Alex Smith, but he showed some positives today. Kind of wish they would be more agressive though, especially in the Red Zone. I mean it's 1 and goal at the 2 and 3 running plays in a row? You might be able to escape the seahawks, but when you play good teams like next week with Dallas, that won't fly.

Some other observations from the NFL today (Thank you Again NFL Red Zone, the drug for any NFL Fan):

-I'm not used to seeing the Colts beat up like that. Maybe that might have settled the argument as to who was the better QB, Manning or Brady. Manning is a difference Maker, Brady just goes with the flow.

-Carolina, despite the loss, looked impressive today, especially Cam Newton. Nice debut for someone who I think will become a star in this league one day.

-The Bears offensive line still has major issues (I'll let Timby be more specific ;) ), but man that defense won them that game today.

All in all, a nice week 1 with 3 more games to play. Hope it's a good season for the 49ers, but I really do have issues with that offense.

Way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, Dallas. What were they? 1 or 2 yards from going in to go up 2 scores with 5 minutes left in the game when Romo fumbled? I don't know why they were blaming Bryant for that last INT. Romo threw it; he knew Bryant was hobbled and couldn't cut well. Reavis just stepped in front of him like any good defender would.
