In other news, Timby has figured out how to hack into the Bears headsets.

In other news, Bears linebacker Lance Briggs (you know, the guy who's been a better linebacker than Urlacher for quite some time) has formally requested a trade as soon as possible after the team made it clear that his contract would not be re-done before the season, nor would it be done after the season (he has three years remaining).

argle bargle fffffffffffffffffffffffff whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

The broncos are VERY underated this year, they will do much better than everyone outside broncos country will expect.

Can't blame the Bears on this one. Lance pulled all kinds of threats and stunts to get his last big money contract, including the "I demand a trade" card, signed a 6 year deal, and now wants out after 3.

Renegotiate with one year left on the contract, sure, with two on the contract? Maybe, if you're desperate. But with three? Tell the guy to shut up and play. If he doesn't do his job, suspend him.

Thanks. I needed that.

Back in reality, I'm pleased with the Rams' preseason. Primarily, no serious injuries, and a nicely upgraded receiving corps.

Hopefully they'll cut Bradford loose a little bit this season. No more games with 15 completions of 4 yards or less!

:scream:

We start with Philly. That should be interesting. I don't think we're quite there yet, but it'll be a good way to see exactly how far the Rams have come.

Don't give them too much credit. All the pieces from last year's passing game are returning (except McD) and our running game and defense should be improved, but..... our rush defense is still looking questionable (which was a huge part of our downfall last year) and we have zero depth. With very, very few exceptions, if we suffer any injuries anywhere, we're humped. Denver will be better than last year, I have no doubt about that. But we're not going to be monsters either- there are just far too many weaknesses keeping us from being serious contenders to fix in one really jacked up offseason.

4 games into the preseason and I still don't know what is up with the 49ers. They suck one week, play well the next, suck again, and then last night wasn't all that bad. Hopefully they can have a consistancy and be able to beat what is arguably the worst team in the division in week one.

I agree with Yoda, this demanding a better contract when you still have a contract is BS.

Did that get put into the new CBA, the ability to hold out? I know they were fining Chris Johnson for every day he wasn't at practice, so I don't know.

As far as Lovie, maybe it's time for him to move on, if he's hearing voices. I like the guy, but I always felt he was way too low key.

Twice nothing is still nothing. They've got last place written all over them.

KC and SD are clearly superior, and Oakland is halfway decent too.

Of course, now I have to say the same thing for Kansas City that I said for the Broncos...... don't give them too much credit. Last year, even when they won all those games, they didn't exactly have "clearly superior" written all over them and this preseason appears to have been a fairly impressive step backwards for them.

As long as NFL contracts aren't guaranteed, I see no reason to begrudge a player for requesting a trade. (Note: Briggs has not said he won't report for Week 1.) It's fully within a team's power to cut a player for any reason to stop paying him, while a player has no option to terminate his contract.

If I'm Lance Briggs and in a position of power (which is the case, as the Bears have no depth at LB), I'm doing whatever I can to get paid before a freak accident happens and my knees explode or my femur shatters and I lose my contract and probably my career.

But he already played this shit out once, he got his big guaranteed money up front on this contract. He's not working off a his rookie contract like a DeSean Jackson where maybe you have would have some right to feel underpaid.

Let's face it, Briggs is a low character, me-first dummy. His best years are either already behind him, or soon will be. I don't think he's in the position of power you think he is. What would the Bears even get for the guy on the trade market? A 2nd or 3rd round draft pick that Angelo is just gonna waste anyway?

Do you really think Briggs is willing to sit out the rest of his contract while not being paid? It would be a problem for the Bears defense, sure, but it would be a complete disaster for Briggs. He won't be getting any mega offers at age 34 having not played for 3 years.

He'll come crawling back as soon as he realizes they won't trade him and that he can't afford another Lamborghini to wreck without his next paycheck.

As for the AFC West... Yeah, I'm not sold on KC at all. Oakland was better than they have been last year, but they just let their best player walk away, and so long as the Crypt Keeper is in charge, how seriously can you really take them?. Denver I think will be ok-ish, so long as they don't let Tebow onto the field. But I think it's pretty obvious that San Diego is the most talented team in that division. I can't see them inexplicably finishing 8-8 again this year.

How do you keep missing the fact that Briggs hasn't said he's holding out? He instructed his agent to formally ask permission to seek a trade. He's still showing up for work every day. He's simply said, "If you won't pay me, please trade me to a team that will."

Kansas City has a ton of talent, but it also has the great equalizer in Todd Haley. One of the worst head coaches I've ever seen in the NFL. Letting Charlie Weis get away will send the Chiefs back to watching the playoffs on TV.

Well, you seemingly suggested he should hold out by saying "If I'm Lance Briggs and in a position of power (which is the case, as the Bears have no depth at LB), I'm doing whatever I can to get paid before a freak accident happens and my knees explode or my femur shatters and I lose my contract and probably my career."

If he's not willing to hold out how is he in any way in a position of power? I demand to be traded, and if not?!?!? Well, I'll play out the remaining three years of my contract as agreed upon and then I probably won't re-sign with you! Take that Bears!

Last year they looked like an 8-8 team to me that managed to snag a couple of wins. Haley does indeed look like an idiot, but I wonder if there's as much talent there as you think there is. I try not to put to much stock into preseason, but man did a lot of KC starters look really bad playing against guys that the Packers are going to cut.

It looks like the over/under for KC is 7.5 wins. I'll take the under.

That's why I'm glad I'm a Pats fan. Never have to worry about them being successful...until the first round of the playoffs when they choke on their own dicks...

I don't blame Briggs for wanting out. He sees the sinking ship. They've taken nearly every recognizable player and released them out traded them over the offseason.

I'll be the first to criticize the Bears, but that's ... well, that's a rather stupid statement.

From last year's team, as far as "recognizable" players:

Defensively, they have Tillman, Urlacher, Adams, Idonije, Harris, Wright and (for now) Briggs. Plus Peppers on the D-line.

Offensively, they have Hester, Bennett, Knox, Cutler and Forte.

The only notable departures from the Bears this offseason have been Olin Kreutz (I'm still pissed about that), and Brad Maynard (I'm still ready to burn down Halas Hall because of that). Everyone else -- Aromashodu, Danieal Manning, Bullocks -- they're replaceable at some point.
