Is Hurricane Irene Coming your Way?

I lost power for about five hours. That's it. It's raining still, but the winds are pretty mild. I think my town got off easy.

There's already flooding outside.

New Jersey, northwest of Newark. It's starting to get windier around here. The rain comes and goes as far as intensity. It seems to have let up a bit for now.

Woot

As far as Hurricanes I've experienced, Floyd was probably the worst as far as flooding goes (sort of like Robert Maxwell's pictures, but with ducks). Then again, I have absolutely terrible drainage down here, so it might end up being worse than it seems now.

May you all be safe and continue on your own stormy path to drunkl.

^^ Good reasons, I hope.

I'm preparing for Irene the same way I've prepared for every other potential catastrophe in my life; i.e., pretending that nothing unusual is happening.
This strategy will either always serve you well, or it will kill you. I'm not sure which!
No reason it can't do both. :bolian: Good luck to you; I hope you haven't lost power.

Weather Channel streaker - mildly NSFW (you can see his ass and he turns around for a full-frontal shot, but it's grainy and far away).
Luckily, YouTube has taken it down as a terms of service violation, so I don't have to warn you for posting teh pr0n (yes, I'm kidding ;)).

I've got some Twisted Tea left for this afternoon, but it's time for breakfast now.

At the moment, we've got heavy rain, but surprisingly little wind. The worst is due in about 11 hours. I don't really have to worry about flooding, since I'm at the top of a little hill, but I just realized I should probably get out and move my car....

I feel sorry for the News crew. The regular crew have to work weekends and some of the reporters have been up all night! And it's not even really interesting stuff to report, just lots of rain. Stormy nights are the best time to be home (I regret that it's no longer Saturday night).

I live in western mass but I had to stay on vacation a little longer because of the trains being canceled. In Rochester NY it's cloudy, cool and breezy at times.

What I find worrying is non of my former classmates have updated their Facebook in hours and thats odd being they live throughout southern New England now.

Well, things seem to be okay where I am. I noticed there's a lot of flooding in New York City, though, and various rivers in New Jersey are expected to go above flood stage. Some places are under a boil water order, but not me.

I hope everybody here came out okay!

The hurricane was a little underwhelming for me. At work during the day, at a hotel in the evening. No power outages. No major damage. Minimal debris. Just lots of wind and rain. The most upsetting part (so far) about the hurricane was the lack of an open Starbucks nearby. I had to hunt and find one that was actually open this morning. I needed my latte, damnit!

Still four or five hours till it peaks here, and the wind is pretty violent. The rain is intermittently torrential. The power and cable are okay so far, although the lights have flickered a few times. And two of the security cameras keep going black and then coming back.
