Fifty Years Ago Today... (Fantastic Four discussion)

"Marko clearly is in the middle of a divorce [with Marvel.] I'm not -- we're still having sex,"

That's my favorite quote from the entire article.

Gotta love how he brags about "absolutely" having character deaths. Ah, the 21st Century.... :rommie:

^ You missed the point that he had them planned. That is key word in that phrase ;) What an interesting panel, and the tension in the room must been pretty intense with Marko freely talking about his issues with Marvel.

You heard it from the horse's mouth. Jonathan Hickman lets Axel Alonso tap it.

If that's what it takes to break in... well, hell, I'll take it over an internship.

The sad thing is that because of the time travel in Iron Man Age of Iron is that Johnny never saw it coming, since he knew for a fact that Tony Stark from 2011 said that he was going to grow up to be an excellent Super hero, ipso facto the lad didn't have to worry about death till 2012 like the rest of the world.

When Iron Man was hunting down Power Man and Iron First during the Super Hero Registration, they must have wondered how enormous Tony Starks balls were that he could ask for their help in the past after he'd probably soon eventually locked them all up in the Negative Zone prison. Cage's wife and kid would be in some iso-cell and he'd allowed the past to unfold into this bastard future-present all because he was to dumb to recognize a NeoHitler when he saw one,

Hey? Shouldn't that have been Skrull Pym Iron Man was folding into his little army to save the Future?

My introduction to the FF was in 1979, with the issues that introduced Terrax the Tamer. Issue #213 was my first, with the FF--except Johnny--aging rapidly due to the effects of a Skrull aging ray while battling Terrax. This was also the storyline that had Galactus battling The Sphinx...

*Spoiler*

with the former kicking the latter's ass in no uncertain terms.

I was a dedicated John Byrne fan and loved his run on the book.

On a less-exalted note, I also remember watching that (putrid) 1978 Saturday morning FF cartoon cartoon which replaced The Human Torch--my generation couldn't be trusted NOT to set itself on fire, I guess--with HERBIE. When the cartoon was quickly cancelled, the FF comic delightfully celebrated that joyous event with the "By Herbie Betrayed!" blurb on issue #217:

Thich Quang Duc was a huge FF fan. This is historical fact.

Did you dudes ever read the Millar run on Fantastic Four? I've got part of it, and actually I rather like it. The story where Reed Richards' cousin is a Cthulu worshipper is pretty lame, but the "Master of Doom" story is really quite bitchin'.

I ask because I understand that retrospection hasn't been terribly kind to it.

He was clearly a poseur, as no "true" fan would've done that in the midst of that great Lee-Kirby run. Besides that, Duc really freaked out Elisabet Vogler--and millions of others, no doubt.

Moving on...

During the John Byrne run, I really liked the Dr. Doom-Terrax three-part story (#258-260), with that fascinating Latervia interlude and the shocking conclusion of the Terrax storyline; it even shocked the Silver Surfer.

With Byrne at the helm, no one was safe!

You say that like someone should make an anonymous phone call to To Catch a Predator.

Phoenix*, Terrax, The Skrull Throne World, and Guardian (James MacDonald Hudson) from Alpha Flight implore you to make that call...;)

*Then Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter made the final decision, but Byrne was a co-plotter and artist of that storyline, so he gets the credit.

Marvel is really pushing Fantasic Four #600...

There nhave been three teasers so far this week, and I presume that they will continue through Friday. Each teaser has a different quote from #600.

The first one from Monday has a picture of Galactus with the quote, "Very soon, your world is going to be broken".

The second one from Tuesday has Black Bolt and the quote (presumably spoken by someone else), "So that's it? Accept... or else?".

And today's has a picture of Annihilus and the quote, "I don't think we can kill Annihilus".
