DC to REBOOT???

Nah, the old continuity is gone. Forget it. It is no more. And it ain't coming back.

This is DC Comics we're talking about. The 1986 Crisis was barely over when silver and golden age stuff started creeping back in and the various glitches resulted in "Zero Hour" only a few years later.

They'll always mine the past for story ideas and characters, but the continuity as a whole isn't coming back. As long as I'm entertained I no longer care about "continuity" or if storyline X happened.

Except in, maybe, 20-25 years when the 80s/90s/00s readers become the head writers and executives of DC and want to bring back when they liked growing up. I'm already getting ready for Crisis Point!
"As the universe nears collapse, an unlikely quartet of heroes -- Connor Hawke, Wally West, Augustus Freeman, and Jean-Paul Valley -- must arise to defeat the multiversal menace of Geoff Lee Didio!" :)

I'd buy it.

I already read Infinite Crisis' Alexander Luthor and Superboy Prime as unconscious representations of Grant Morrison and Geoff Johns himself.

I mean, look at Alex Luthor. He's bald and he's all about the multiverse. QED.

That's an awesome team. I would be on board for that. That's pretty much a Justice League lineup right there. I would've been more interested in reading that JLA than James Robinson's recent iteration.

I liked most of Robinson's lineup. I liked that he made Dick a mentor to Kara. It is unfortunate that he won't be able to realize his full run.

^ Yeah, I thought in terms of lineup, Robinson's run was pretty awesome. Mostly legacies, but almost all corresponding to one of the "classic" Leaguers? Several former Titans, plus Jade and Jessie Quick (even if I prefer her as Liberty Belle) as Green Lantern and Flash? Yes please! :techman:

I could never get into it. For one, I don't like that he whitewashed the team. Cyborg was on there for a minute, but he got rid of Vixen, John Stewart, Dr. Light, and Black Lightning. It seemed a bit abrupt after the more diverse lineup put up by Dwayne McDuffie. Two, the adventures didn't do much for me. Don't care about Prometheus or Eclipso as villains. Though I did like the dark road he (?) took Green Arrow down. Prometheus deserved it.

In general, Robinson doesn't do much for me. Though I did like his work in Mon-El, Man of Valor.

My biggest problem with the new League is similar to a problem that I have with the whole DC Universe following Infinite Crisis.

There was this big deal made that the Justice League was being rebooted and returned to some classic status. This was started in the beginning with the Red Tornado storyline and Vixen finding her power. Then suddenly the line up changed; all the major leaguers left and then it changed again and again so there was never any sense of continuity with respect to who was actually in the League.

Following Infinite Crisis there was supposed to be this big shake up in the DCU through Final Crisis. Everything started out neat with the OYL books and 52, but then Countdown and the Death of the Gods series couldn't even fit properly with Final Crisis and ultimately that whole three year period was much ado about nothing. This entire revamp seems like DC acknowledging that they couldn't get their act together and deliver on all the implied promises of that fiasco.

but then Countdown and the Death of the Gods series couldn't even fit properly with Final Crisis

Morrison actually wanted the New Gods to be off-limits to anyone else in the year running upto Final crisis so that he could reintroduce them with that story - however in his own words, they were 'passed around like herpes' - the Death of the New Gods mini-series was written without his input simply as a cash-grab and Starlin basically has no idea what Morrison was planning to do. Countdown is the same, just a cash grab with no input from him.

I think the Justice League of America book (that just ended and started with Brad Meltzer) was hurt by the creator rotations after Meltzer left. There were only a couple of stories that I really enjoyed like the aforementioned Red Tornado one and the Justice Society crossover and of course the Legion of Superheroes crossover.

I loved the line that Dick had with Donna as they both prepare to teleport from the Watchtower and I think this had to have come from Robinson himself as Dick asked her, "Will anyone remember us? This incarnation of the league?" I think part of the point of Robinson was that he was exploring the legacy characters as was mentioned and their impact as well. It wasn't a glamorous roster by any means but that was kind of the point. I liked the mish mashed line up.

So far I think my biggest disapointment with this whole New 52 thing, is that it sounds like it brought a sudden end to a lot of interesting storylines. While I am still looking forward to the new books, I have to wonder if perhaps it would have been better if they just decided to focus on building stronger stories using the characters as they were pre-reboot. Maybe they could have just brought in some new writers or something if they didn't like what was being done with the characters? That's been my biggest confusion with the nuDCU, that fact that it's still all of the same people behind the scenes. You'd think if they wanted to really make big changes, they would have tried to bring in more new writers, because IMO at least, as long as you use the same writers, you'll probably just end up in the same place you were before.

^ Yep that's my biggest problem with it now as well is that current storylines not to mention projected ones that have been in the works for months are now never going to happen because of the New 52. This still could turn out to be the bees knees for DC but I dunno. I'll be able to better judge this after a few issues of the books that I'm planning on reading.

I think you have some very good points. For me, and I am sure for many people, the key to this whole thing is the same day comics release. I live overseas and cannot buy comics. Comixology has annoying irregular release times for comics. Marvel waits six months to release their books. Now I can buy my favorite comics and return to visiting online forums and boards without having story lines spoiled.

The rebooting of characters is not the reason that this will bring me back to DC. In fact, everything I am reading about this reboot is starting to turn me off.

Really good points actually, especially about the whitewashing. Hmm.

The only Robinson I've actually read (never actually read his JL, just liked the lineup) is his part in the JSA relaunch and I'm working on getting his Starman series, which gets so much praise.

This has nothing to do with the relaunch but I didn't want to create a new thread when there isn't much information in this article. Grant Morrison talks about his long awaited "Wonder Woman" project with artist Ethan Van Sciver that maybe be finally coming out soon. He hinted at SDCC that along with the continuation of Batman, Inc and Multiversity that he has another project yet to be announced. This could be it.
