I registered for the Harry Potter Pottermore site!

Today's clue was just the number of chapters in book 6 multiplied by 14. It wasn't hard to look up.

I just validated my e-mail. The website says:

"You may have to wait a few weeks for your Welcome email to arrive as we can’t let everyone into the Beta site at the same time."

Log in at the website, just to see what it says. Nothing neat or anything, but I loggedin to make sure it knew I was there.

My girlfriend got in yesterday but she has to wait to actually see anything. I guess you have to solve some stuff to get an account, then wait to actually be let in? Seems like a lot of trouble for dubious benefit.

Yeah, my guess is that the early clue people will be let in over the next few weeks. It would be hilarious if the people who answered a clue yesterday weren't let into the website until late September (just before the regular folks).

I am curious as to how long it'll take to get into the site, but I'm assuming they'd want to go earlier than later if they want the users to do beta testing for them.

Process goes: 1. answer a really easy trivia question, 2. put answer into Web address, which redirects to another site, 3. find and click on a shiny quill at the site, which then takes you to registration. It doesn't really take much time - I helped each of my younger cousins make their accounts this morning, and once you know the site where the quill is, you can skip the earlier steps and just go to the website to find the quill.

Only posting this because if anyone is interested, the last chance for early registration is supposed to come online sometime between 7:30-10 pm Eastern standard time tonight.

Updated: Last clue just went online. (8 pm EST)

I got registered last Sunday, so waiting for the beta to start really.

BTW, another example shown about the background bits written by JK Rowling is the History of the Hogwarts Express.

So she doesn't do Harry Potter books anymore. Next up, the tales of Hermione and Ron.

Ah such a book...

"Watch! as they fight about every little thing that comes up."
"See! the insults fly between them."
"cringe! at the negative reactions from said insults"
"listen! to the huffy silences that follow"
"and finally, Marvel! at how Hermione manages to talk about Harry in every other conversation!".

Ah...

Anyway, all this talk about more info being relased about the books, I tend to think that any info released at such a late date is stuff that isnt really worth the time to read anyway.

Some people ask, "whats wrong with more Harry Potter?" Personally I dont consider such things to be "more Harry Potter". If any of this additional info was going to be worthwhile, it would have been in the books to begin with.

If she writes another book, that's more Harry Potter. Not that I imagine I would buy it but that is by the by.

^Nice one.

I wonder if any of the background information will include information about the major American Wizarding Schools.

I know it's a British-based series, but with Goblet of Fire and the introduction of other wizarding schools around the world...

Such as:
Beauxbatons Academy of Magic in Southern France
and
The Durmstrang Institute in Northern Norway

I find it unlikely that the Western World lacks it's own Wizarding Schools throughout both North & South America.

Come on.

Well, if there are any, they're obviously of no importance whatsoever, or one would think they'd have been mentioned.

^The Salem Witches' Institute and an unnamed school in Brazil are the only 2 references to American wizarding schools, but Rowling has said in interviews/chats that there are more. (Both are mentioned in Goblet of Fire.)

Well, they must be the special ed schools of the Wizarding World, since you'd think their help would be appealed to in, say, fighting off an army of Dark Wizards. Maybe they're schools for autistic North/South American wizards? In which case they might not be able to do much good.

Or maybe Voldy's troops infected Wizarding Britain's drinking water with a potion that made them forget about the world's other wizarding communities. This would also explain why they never appealed for help form Beauxbtons or Durmstrang.

Got another email telling me I got into the site... (but I just have to wait 'til sometime between mid-August and September)

Apparently the French version of that Congratulations/confirmation e-mail specially said between August 15 and September 30. Which I think fits perfectly if they do one-seventh of the million per week; that'd have the final seventh being let in at the beginning of the last week of September.

I got the same. I'm curious what house I'll be sorted into. It's supposed to be based on your answers to a questionnaire.

I'm going to be more interested as to whether the results are replicable - there's supposed to be a variety of questions, so that the same questions don't appear for each individual user, but it's always supposed to produce the same result. I'm planning on registering a 2nd account in October to test it. (The wand selection process is said to work the same way, and I have to admit that I'm curious as to whether they'll eventually start selling those wands in a Pottermore store.)

Apologies in advance for the two posts in a row, but I'm not seeing the "edit" button on my previous post for whatever reason.

Anyhow, the beta site went up today and people from days 1 and 2 have reported that they're in. (I'm day 4, so I'm assuming it'll be a while before I get anything.) Anyone lucky enough to be in?
