What is your first name?

I feel left out. I only know one Dave. Two Mikes (generally referred to by their last name) and two Andrews (one referred to as Andy, one by his last name), but only one Dave.

This reminds me of someone I know - when I first started interacting with him, it was only over email (he's been a panelist at the convention for a few years), and I knew him as David. Then his gf (now fiancee) joined our committee in my department, so I started to socialize with him a bit, and discovered that he usually goes by Andy. Then, this year, I heard a few people calling him Dave. So I have no idea what to call him half the time - I don't know if there's a rule about when to call him David, when to call him Andy, and when to call him Dave.

Oh, and I've had a few nicknames over the years as well - two of them are actual names, which has confused people. One of them I got about the time TNG premiered, when I was 19 and holding a couple of fairly prominent positions on various committees. You can guess what that nickname was, I'm sure. It's gotten to the point now where only one or two people still use it, though, and when they do, they just use it as though it were my actual name, with no inflection to indicate that it's a nickname, or that it might have once been construed as insulting.

The other nickname I had came from a shirt I wore one day in grade 9 - it had green and red stripes around the collar, in the shape of the letter V, which resembled the logo of a pizza chain called Frank Vetere's. So all through high school, everyone - including several of my teachers - called me Frank. One day we had a substitute teacher in one of my classes who got extremely annoyed trying to figure out what my name really was.

Michael.

Mark. Although I get called "Charlie" a lot, because I bear a striking resemblance to Charlie Sheen. Which was cool at one time, but not the greatest thing in the world right now.

I'm Stacey.

The first time I recall having to say “I'm a GIRL” was getting my first library card at 4 or 5 years old. I was standing right there in pigtails and a dress. :sigh:
That’s odd, because when someone’s first name is Stacey or Stacy, I assume they’re female.

. . . when someone’s first name is Stacey or Stacy, I assume they’re female.

Stacy Keach
Okay, that’s one dude named Stacy. The name usually makes me think of Jennifer Jason Leigh in Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Damn, she was cute back then.

My first name is Marina.
Very pretty. :)
Definition of “marina”: A small port used for pleasure. ;)

Heidi ~ (german, Noble one! ~ oh get me!)

I respond to; Heid, Heids, but never, ever 'Heidi Hi'. For those of you not familiar with a dreadful British tv show 'Hi-di-Hi' which was set in a holiday camp ~ consider yourself lucky.
“Hi-dee-hi, hi-dee-ho” was a nonsense phrase popularized by musician Cab Calloway. I hope no one’s ever called you “Heidi the ho”!

My first name is Richard, but most people call me Rick or RJ. Occasionally Rich. My niece and nephew call me Uncle Ricky.

Another Richard here too. Most folks who know me call me Rich. I only hear Richard in formal situations or when I'm in trouble with Mrs.Q2, then I run for the basement. ;)

Hope there are more "Richards" on the BBS; we're being over run with Daves. :p

My middle name is Richard. Or does it not count when there's a Dick in the middle?

;)
I wish you hadn't brought that up. So to speak.

Mark. Although I get called "Charlie" a lot, because I bear a striking resemblance to Charlie Sheen. Which was cool at one time, but not the greatest thing in the world right now.
When I was a kid, my nickname was "Hutch." Which suddenly became cool when I was in 9th Grade. :rommie:

One thing with being called Joel, I don't remember going through school with any other people called Joel. I love the uniqueness of the name. I remember there are few people here with that (including one person who didn't like it - and changed it)

Jordan.

What annoys me about it is that when I got the name, in 1979, it was widely considered a boys-only name. Now, when most people learn my name they think it's a girl's name. *sigh*

But I mostly go by "Hey, you!" anyway.

I respond to; Heid, Heids, but never, ever 'Heidi Hi'. For those of you not familiar with a dreadful British tv show 'Hi-di-Hi' which was set in a holiday camp ~ consider yourself lucky. I worked briefly at a holiday camp and switched name badges with another girl before I had to kill someone :klingon:

For those who wish to get an education as to what K's on about...

(Please don't hurt me K'Ehleyr..it's strictly educational) ;)

MANT! Today is a good day to die. :klingon:

:p

None that lived Scotpens :klingon:

I knew I should have kept my fake name... or perhaps I should just be K' :)
