Wonder Woman(NBC) *Spoilers!*

I'm sure I'm not the first person to suggest this, but they ought to get the actress who played Sif in the "Thor" movie, Jamie Alexander, to play WW.

Yeah, I could see that working too. I think she was even mentioned as a possibility while the movie was in the works.

I don't care that much about the costume -- what surprises me is the complete lack of any footage in which Palicki speaks. I'm more interested in how she wore the character than how she wore the clothes.

I managed to wrangle a copy of the pilot. It's a mess. God-awful. Without going in to spoiler territory (in case NBC decides to release it), the whole hullabaloo about the costume, in the end was pointless.

Elizabeth Hurley is about the only good thing in the otherwise nonsensical story, and even she can't save it.

In short, for a woman who flies an invisible jet, Wonder Woman is a terrible fucking pilot.

She's busy with Covert Affairs playing nerd tech girl confused by social situations and field work.

I think she was good on Thor because the lass only had four lines.

I caught a little third rock from the sun last night.

10 years ago, the WWE's Chyna would have been an interesting choice for the roll.

God no!
I remember seeing her in a TV movie a few years ago. She played a security guard.
I would say her acting skills were poor, but that would lead one to believe that she actually had acting skills.

^ I have that issue. Good artwork inside.

I'm pretty sure I read an interview where she said that she'd be interested in the role.
I posted something about her upthread around the time Thor came out...
Anyway, here's an interesting little article I found about Thor's Jaimie Alexander...

It seems just about everything for the new “Wonder Woman” show can be controversial to comics fans — from her outfit to the actress hired — but Jaimie Alexander, who plays Lady Sif in “Thor,” has pretty strong opinions of her own about Diana Prince. In fact, she feels so strongly about the character that she once turned down the role.

More like... GOOD GOD NO!!!111 with a :wtf: at the end. I remember years ago, there was a thread where someone suggested her for the part and a number of posters thought it was a good idea. I was surprised that people saw Wonder Woman that way.

Chyna

I like it when they draw Wonder Woman taller than Batman.

You can't have a 5 foot 5 stick as Wonder Woman.

But are large athletic women conventionally attractive?

Personally I thought Chyna would be good after I saw her wrestle at the Royal Rumble some years ago where she was throwing men the size of refrigerators all over the place, and not because of any of her acting.

That interview only convinces me further that she's a good choice.

I'll admit the only real exposure I have to the character is the DCU Animated movies, but I don't see someone like Chyna as WW at all. While she does have superhuman strength, I don't actually see her looking overly muscled like that.

Apparently the entire pilot has been leaked on the net.
I haven't seen that yet but there are more clips: http://blastr.com/2011/07/3-wonder-woman-clips-reve.php

Personally? I'm even more bummed now that this didn't get released. Blastr is kind of harsh about it (this from the channel that shows horrible movies all the time), but frankly the two action pieces in the first clip are good (yes, the lasso needed post-production work) and I really liked the brief clip in the boardroom.

(yes, the lasso needed post-production work)

The lasso was post-production work. Her lasso throwing and roping were done with CG. In that respect, the article is correct that it was "drawn on top of the scene." I imagine if the pilot had been picked up, the effect would have been improved, however.

Yes, to clarify - I saw that effect as a very rough "first pass" effect which would have been refined in the "final" post-production work before the episode would have aired.

Naturally the FX footage was unfinished, not what we would've actually seen if the episode had been completed and aired. And anyway, the resolution on the clips was so low I'm surprised anyone could tell the difference. At least on my computer, the traffic-chase scene was so low-res that it looked like an impressionist painting.

Now that I've finally seen Palicki performing in the role, I'm a bit underwhelmed, but maybe she could've grown on me given better material and more time to get used to the role. She had a nice smile in that hospital scene, but it felt forced, like I could practically see her thinking "Okay, time to pretend I'm Lynda Carter now."

And the writing is all over the place. They were trying to acknowledge that she has both a warrior side and a caring side, but they kept them too separate. In the fight scenes, she was brutal and cold, hostile to legal authority, and totally ignored the fans screaming out their love for her, but then she was a totally different person when visiting that sick kid in the hospital. And then there was her persona in the boardroom, about which I'm not sure what to think, since we saw so little of it. (Except I'm wondering if you can get away with saying "tits" on network TV these days.)
