eeg! 51-year-old actor marries a 16-year-old girl

And I just had waffles which should calm my mood and make me less confrontational.
Hm, waffles.

I love Waffle House. Got the chance to eat at one on a recent road trip and became immediately hooked.

I wish they had them in the state where I live. Sadly they do not. :sigh:

Really? I thought they were everywhere! There are three within 3 miles of where I live! I will say, if you ever get to go to one, order the Texas Cheesesteak, hash browns, and a big cup of black coffee. You will not regret it.

I've never had cheese steaks for breakfast, but hashbrowns are a pretty standard breakfast food in America.

Really? I thought they were everywhere!

I think they used to be everywhere, but over the last 20 years or so they have started to disappear. I'd have to drive several hours to get to one.

Aw.

I remember, years ago, when my family traveled from southern Florida to Ohio, we saw hundreds of Waffle Houses along the interstate. Every exit had at least 2 visible from the road, and they were always busy.

The Waffle House is a diner that serves breakfast foods.
I see. Now I might be inclined to ask what cheese steaks and hash browns have to do with breakfast, but I'm afraid of the answer... :shifty:

Just come here and we can show you.

Mmm.. amen.

Who gets to decide which parts we should take seriously regarding their historical content, though? Are we just going to take everything seriously that isn't obviously incorrect? Religious texts (even more so than Ancient historiography) are full of themes and stories trying to convey a message but not trying to tell you what actually happened (Moses/Exodus anybody?).
Doesn't sound reasonable to me.

Nah, of course not an uncritical acceptance of the history as told. But that's what critical scholarship and analysis is for. :techman:

Also, Waffle House = yum. Though I pretty much don't bother with anything besides the hash browns. Cheese, Ham, and onions on top and you're good to go.

While of course many aspects of the Bible are a matter of faith rather than history, there's enough evidence suggesting the major players at least existed that it's questionable to call them "fictional". [/pendantic]

That's actually not true even though Christians keep repeating it.

Unless you count the Christian sources (which would kinda make the discussion useless) there's hardly any evidence for Jesus' existence apart from very few instances of mostly Roman and Greek historians mentioning his name decades after he allegedly died. Now I'll grant you that only like 1% of ancient literature is still available to us and even I don't think that the early Christians just completely made up some shit.

If that's proof for you regarding the existence of all the major players, fine. As a historian (not specialized in Ancient history) I'm inclined to believe that a guy called Jesus or similar existed but all the other major characters might just as well be completely fictional (with very few notable exceptions who acted after he died (like Paul)).

The whole kerfuffle around him? I dunno, we're not even sure Pilate existed and you'd think the Romans were decent at keeping track of their officials.

But again, it's been quite a long time and much was lost so I'm not gonna sit here and claim he didn't exist. But coming here saying there's evidence that the major characters existed is just nonsense.

And let's not get into the Old Testament cause there are hardly any historical accounts from that time at all.
Run away with me.

I guess I'm coming late to this party, but my comments are:

1. Anderson Cooper should really stop trying to be Jon Stewart. Even though I do agree with him, he comes off as trying WAY too hard to be amusing.

2. LOST actor guy is, as far as I'm concerned, a pedophile. Regardless of what the law says.

3. This girl's parents ought to be taken out and shot. And then propped up and shot again. Or eaten by the Smoke Monster. Whichever. These are parents who fall into the category of 'should not have been allowed to breed'. Because as we have already seen, their dumbfuck children are turning out to be even bigger dumbfucks than they are.

4. This girl is headed for a life chock full of bizarro drama and extremely ill-advised courses of action - sort of a Lindsay Lohan wannabe or something. I can tell already: this ill advised course of action? This chick is just gettin' started. Marrying this guy is just the warm-up for a life that will be chock full of shit she will ultimately live to regret - if she lives at all past the age of about 30. Which is improbable.

5. What the fuck does she see in him? A second-rate character actor who isn't even hot? I mean, LOST was LOADED with extremely hot men...but this guy didn't even make the "C" list, in that department.

Well, in a technical sense, he'd be an ephebophile, as she obviously has secondary sex characteristics, something which takes him a huge step above a pedophile. I understand it's still your right to consider him a pedophile, I'm just clarifying. :p

Is it my right to consider Barack Obama a Muslim, Russian a West Slavic language, and Jupiter a terrestrial planet?

Technically, I guess?

Nebraska has never, AFAIK, had Waffle Houses. :(

Yep. Personal opinion can override the word of law as long as no attempted action based solely on that personal opinion is taken.

What a shame. You're missing killer food, man, and I mean that figuratively and literally!

Like they say, everyone’s entitled to an opinion, but no one is entitled to their own facts. Fact: Pedophilia is defined as abnormal sexual attraction to pre-pubescent children. Whatever this girl is, that’s one thing she ain’t.

Just because she has grown tits does not take him a 'huge' step above a pedophile. She is SIXTEEN FUCKING YEARS OLD. And if the dumbfuck girl had not obtained the permission of her even bigger dumbfuck parents, this guy would be arrested as a sex offender.

There are no 'huge' steps above pedophilia here. There are only The Stupidest Parents On Earth....who allow this shit rather than having the guy fucking arrested and thrown in jail where he belongs.

I'm sorry...but a 51 year old man has absolutely NOTHING in common with a 16 year old girl. No doubt since the girl has a shit-for-brains father who is incapable of expressing love via the setting up of boundaries that will keep his daughter SAFE from sick sons-of-bitches, this sick bastard has convinced the little spud-head that he 'loves' her, when in fact it is really all about gratifying himself sexually at the expense of a CHILD.

A child, not at all incidentally, who some day might well realize how totally fucked up this is....and need therapy to try and undo the damage this guy will do to her.

I mean seriously - can anyone honestly say that they believe his motives to be anything more than sexually gratifying SELF with little-to-no regard for how this could effect her for the rest of her life?

I mean, where it not for her shit-for-brains father, this would be statutory rape. And there is a REASON for those statutes. Which do not have exclusionary provisions in them for cup size.

Well, yeah, but I'm not going to argue with PKTrekgirl. She could probably kick my ass. :ouch:
