I was taking a look to see if I should head to bed or wait for a reply to some posts. Figured, if there were a bunch of people in the thread I was posting in, just hang out a bit and keep the convo going.

Just now, I found out, assuming this particular slice in time is an accurate representation, just how much this BBS has changed. And not at all for the better.

    3:39 AM EST:

    Number of people viewing:

    TNG: 1
    DSN: 6
    VOY: 6

---Don't get the people wanting to look at fake art, , but hey, if I were drunk at 3:00 AM I'd rather look at pics than read. Still, I'm surprised at the numbers, but nothing shocking.

    Think for a second....
It falls under the "Entertainment and Interests" heading...

    Yeah...

    SF&F.

    How many viewing?

You saw the highest total in all other threads was 11 in the POP culture thread.

So, how many at 3:39 AM in the SF&F thread?

    SIXTY SEVEN.

    SIXTY SEVEN.

What the FUCK has happened to this board???

If you like B5 and Firefly, post on that motherfucker. I have no problem w/that. If you like B5, Firefly or those dumbassed teeny vampire shows, good for you. No grudges. We like what we like.

But personally, I didn't sign up for TREK BBS and spend 8 years of my life posting on TREK BBS to have the majority of people posting about fucking BUFFY! Did you? Is that why you signed up on TREK BBS?

    WHAT THE FUCK?

With no new Star Trek on television (Star Trek's domain), the same subjects are discussed over and over again. People get tired of it, so in between the television series', activity shifts to other topics in other genres. When Star Trek gets a new television series (it's bound to), then that will drive new interest once more.

I don't get it. This a multi-themed Board. What difference does it make where people post?

Star Trek is divided into multiple categories, so there are actually either 22 or 26 posting on that topic, depending on whether you count nuTrek.

I think it's great that so many people are posting in Literature. And I wouldn't call Fan Art "fake" or tell gamers to "get a life." That's just rude and a symptom of being a Mundane wannabe. If you feel that way, maybe you should grab a beer and watch a football game instead of wasting your time on TrekBBS.

    Physician, heal thyself.

I guess they should spend the time doing something more productive like tallying up where everyone on the board is posting at a given time, making a value judgment on that, and then hysterically flipping out over it.

You should take up sex ThankQ. It's more fun, you burn calories and you don't get a global messageboard pointing and laughing at you.

    I'm in agreement here.

I do enjoy the DS9 and TNG forum, but seriously, after 5 years here the same topics come up over and over again about the same things. This is why I mostly hang around in Misc and TNZ (though I never get bored of Ds9 chat :)). Trek Lit? Ds9 relaunch was AWESOME, some trek novels have kept Star Trek alive in a way I didn't think possible. In fact, I would PREFER new and better novels to a new TV series.

To most people I would think it would be considered a shockingly good thing to have a board where members are still actively posting in huge numbers in spite of the fact that the primary franchise the board is based on has neither a series on the air or a movie currently in theaters.

I think it speaks well of both the community and of the breadth of subject matter discussed here.

How silly of me to imagine that this thread might be about something that actually matters.

This board's nearly 12 years old and Trek hasn't been on air for half that time. The fact this place still exists is kinda remarkable in light of those facts.

If you're "shocked and Saddened" (sic) by something this trivial...geez. :wtf:

As others have said there is no active trek on TV at the moment. Get similar threads over and over again in the trek forums.

With regards to Science Fiction and Fantasy being so active, it's been that way for the last few years. Most times of the day it would be in top 3 most active forum.

People seem to be doing fine expressing their feelings here without resorting to overt insults.

I wonder what "Fake art" is anyway? Are people selling da Vinci forgeries in there?

"Fake Art" (?)(!)..... I guess that it's similar to all of the "Fake Opinions" that people also post in these forums.

Some people have a difficult time understanding the very basic concept of what art is.

I was going to come in and say how this board occasionally likes to gang up and crucify people, but then I re-read the OP's comments about gamers, art, sports and fitness, and realised this is probably exactly what he intended - to ruffle a few feathers. Probably bored and one too many beers.

I too thought this was going to be about the recent death...
