2011 MLB Season Discussion

Some thoughts on today's Memorial Day Baseball (Which I've been following either by listening to the games or watching):

-Posey is out for the year, which sucks. Hopefully he can make a great 100% recovery and be ready for 2012.

-Giants looked alright today, from Torres slam to Mad Bum absolutely getting it done. I've got a feeling he's finding his stuff because after starting the season 0-6, he's been on a roll lately. Hopefully it continues and that win/loss record improves.

-What is up with the D-Backs. I'm listening to their game tonight against the Marlins and they sound like they are playing perfect baseball. They're getting it done with the long ball, fundamentals, and like the announcers were saying, taking advantage of opportunities that are given.

-Good for Rayes for getting that elusive win. 28 starts with no win is not good, no matter what team you're on or how you are.

-A's crashed back down to earth today. Who would have though "Big Fat" Bartolo Colon would have a game like he had today. Hopefully the A's take at least one game in this series.

-Not really liking the Memorial Day attire. I know it's all marketing, but I wish the flag logo (Which I really like) was just integrated into the original uniform.

Those forced flag hats are definitely tacky and boderline offsneive.

^ What was really odd was the Jays wearing awful-looking Canadian flag hats. Yesterday wasn't even a holiday here, it was just Monday.

Jose Bautista should not quit his day job. And yet, his acting debut with Steve Schirrippa is a little bit funny:

Tacky indeed. If they're going to do something like this, keep it simple and decent looking. Have the players wear a flag patch on their sleeve or something.

I own this hat:

It looks awesome. I hate the white ones and the forced use of red white & blue for other teams.

Giants took 3 from the Cards this week. With Buster's injury, this was a welcome bit of good news. There's still a long way to go and the Giants still need a catcher, but well done going into a hard place to play in St. Louis and coming out a series (4 games no less) winner.

Any guys in the system that they can use? What are they doing for a catcher anyway?

Right now it's Eli Whiteside, but they brought up Chris Stewart (Old Journeyman from the White Sox I believe). There's been some talk about maybe getting Pudge from the Nationals but nothing more than that really. Not really sure who else they have, but if they need a catcher, why not get someone like Rodriguez. They also need a big bat and despite Pudge being at the end of his career (I think), he can provide some power.

Yeah, Pudge is pretty used up, but I'd still take him over someone without a good track record.

Brian Sabean rocks. Linky

I'm embarrassed as a Giants fan by what Sabean said. I lost so much respect that I had gained last year because of it too. Where was he when the Giants did it (Which, other than 2004 and Snow and Pudge, has probably happened countless other times). Cousins did what he could to get a run, that's what Baseball is. This whole thing has been blown so out of proportion that I'm just embarrassed as a Giants fan.

I also heard an interview this week on ESPN's Baseball Today (Podcast) with Jim Bowden who basically said it was Posey's fault (Using the words that he was not "mechanically sound) he got hurt. Are you f&*@ing kidding me with this this week. Shut the heck up, quit crying and enjoy Baseball.

I feel bad for Cousins now. He's been getting death threats and that's unreal.

David Ross for a second base prospect? :D

Isn't David Ross a competent catcher. It seems like they are relying on him a lot more to back up McCann, especially on like Sundays or something. If he can hit, sure why not. We have many prospects in our system (Not really sure how high of quality they are), or we can give you draft picks, given that's coming up this year.

Fans suck for the most part, plain and simple.

I'm not surprised this guy is getting threats, but it is pretty sad.

It's just a game.

Maybe it's just the hockey fan in me talking, but really? Death threats? For that? Both Cousins and Posey were just playing hard, and it sucks that Posey got hurt, but that's sports.
