Anyone know what Marina charges for a pic/autograph?

Because obviously the 'freebie' people aren't fans.

Or the stars are pretty flippin' busy and having to been several hours at a stretch to sign autographs would be a pain in the ass. Honestly... stars owe fans very little. She made the show, you watched it and enjoyed it. Seems to me like the deal was done. Not sure what any star owes fans after that point...

Dag, if "stars" are THAT busy, they should just stay home resting up from their busy schedules of trying to stay in the spotlight after their acting careers dried up after Trek.

Some should be grateful that they are remembered at all, so a number of them DO owe fans something.

I'm a big collector of Trek autographs and accept the charge for a "product" I desire. It does, however, become slightly grating when the "star" is ungracious at the point of sale.

I always make an effort to be pleasant, to the point and "non-fanboyish", e.g. "Pleased to meet you, could you make that out to..." etc. This is rare, but I do remember a signing with John de Lancie a few years ago in London where his response could only be described as a "grunt" and at best a blank expresion.

A lady I'd been chatting to in the queue reported much the same - I dunno, maybe he was having a bad day, but if I'm coughing up £20+ I do expect a thank you and even a smile! I still hold to my view De Lancie is a superb actor (not just in Star Trek), but I walked away from him slightly disappointed and feeling I'd been treated a little rudely.

Back when I was a teenager, I attended a convention in Albuquerque that Marina Sirtis did. She was hysterical and lively on stage. Signing autos though, she didn't once look up at anyone; only signed as fast as she could. To some extent I get that. She was probably tired and when there are literally hundreds to thousands of things to sign I'm sure she didn't really want to chit chat with everyone. Still, it seemed kind of cold...

Frakes on the other hand *offered* to personalize my stuff last year, looked up, said hi. I walked away from that line impressed.

I've heard similar things about De Lancie as well and a few other Star Trek stars.

My things is this: I don't think anyone who has participated in Star Trek in any fashion owes the fans any conventions appearances, autographs, photo ops, etc. Those are a personal choice. That said, if those people do choose to sign on for a convention or whatnot they should show up with a positive attitude and not a "I was dragged here by my collar" or "I'm punching my ticket for the fans for this year" attitude.

I'd rather see an actor who attends the convention because he or she genuinely enjoys the fans not because he or she feels it's necessary to shut them up or owes them something.

Suzi Plakson was an absolute doll when I spoke to her at Creation. Spent some time talking to me about not only Trek, but Love and War as well (I think she appreciated a non-Trek conversation).

Pat Tallman was the same (though we spoke about B5, not her many Trek appearances).

When I met the actors at cons, I got in the habit of shaking his/her hand. I can see how that might be borderline creepy, though. In fact, when I shook Sirtis' hand, she looked a little spooked, and the handler sitting next to her looked at me suspiciously.

I also shook Doohan's hand, and it was until several years later that I learned he was missing a finger from that hand. I didn't feel anything unusual when we shook; probably because the missing finger wasn't on the end of his hand.

I agree. Considering that actors make more in a week than most of us will see in our entire lifetimes, it's also criminal.

Ummm...what's criminal? Making more in a week etc., or charging for autographs? AFAIK, neither of those things are criminal.

Criminal? No. In poor taste? Probably. These people are responsible for them having the ability to hone their craft at a very profitable rate for many, many years.

Most of the Star Trek actors (all series) would've been lucky to star in unbought Fox pilots if not for Star Trek and its rabid fanbase.

my buddy got a auto from James Doohan and he said that James gives (gave ) the 1st auto for free and then charges for 2nd

Back when I got my autograph from her and even a photo with her, it was before actors started charging. You could also write them and get signed photos for free. When Majel Barrett had to do her signing at a convention sooner than originally planned, my sister missed seeing her, and when I wrote Majel Barrett to explain what happened and ask for a signature for my sister, she send two signed items: a recent photo and a signed vintage TMP trading card.

Charged, not charges.

Horror guy Tom Savini was at a con in Austin a few years ago, and I found out he will sign anything ya want to bring to his table for free, but ya have to buy one of his photos for each item.

Its like a two for one deal.
