The kid didn't speak, or even open his mouth much. I thought it was pretty darned obvious.
^^^ Yeah, the older boy actually said the younger one hadn't spoken since their parents were killed.
I figured both kids had been turned -- but I also figured there was no way the writers were going to have Sam and Dean dispatch two recently-orphaned little boys onscreen, even as JSs. (Notice that demons have already taken the issue out of their hands by the time they get there.)

Eve knew how to manipulate them. She knew a pair of brothers would get to them. The fact that they both can be manipulated in that manner, though technically a weakness, shows they have humanity left in spite of the questionable things they've done. Here's a clip from next week's episode--the one directed by Ben Edlund. His first directing job. Spoilery, of course. No brothers in this clip.

Another good episode and back to the "staus quo" of the show. I've been telling my wife about Crowley for a couple of weeks now..so I wasn't surprised that Castiel didn't burn HIS bones. Loved that Bobby was having trouble w/..what was that a kindle or IPad?
ONLY one thing I ABSOLUTELY hated, but found it funny after they would actually use the name: "Jefferson Starships"..I mean after all I loved their music!!....
So refresh my mind, but didn't Castiel state that the "civil war" in heaven was going badly for him?...It would explain why he is taking such a route in not telling Sam and Dean what he is doing?!?

Yes, he told them that. He mentioned having to do "regrettable things." God is staying hands off and Castiel is making a deal with the closest thing to the devil that he can. His respect for Dean is tearing him up, though. Which makes for good angst and story, of course.

Yeah, I've been suspecting Castiel was doing something like that. I was surprised with how quickly they dispatched Crowley, so I'm really glad to see that it was just a ruse and not poor storytelling. I absolutely loved how Dean smoked Eve as well. "Bite me!" XD
'Course, it does feel weird hearing Eve tell us what Crowley was up to. It just doesn't mesh with me. I still don't know why he was so hellbent on getting into Purgatory. Supernatural keeps trying to imply that it's all monsters in there, and I could have sworn that monsters lacked a soul. So... what's to gain by getting in there? Especially since he'd have to deal with Eve who, aside from the phoenix ashes, was implied to be a total badass. I mean if she can shut an archangel like Castiel down, I can't imagine it would be hard for her to do the same with a type of creature that is infinitely younger than he was (ie, demons).

I get that they're going to try and reveal that was the whole point of getting the Winchesters involved, since if anyone could kill Eve it'd be them. They do have something of a track record for doing the impossible, afterall. But still... what's in it for Crowley and Castiel?

Kind of reminds me of season 4-21 "When the Levee Breaks"...Cass is still in a conundrem of following orders (which I believe is him doing what he believes) and his "loyalty" to Dean. NOT gonna be pretty this time as I think Dean will "discover" his subterfuge.
I loved that Eve was actually a red herring big bad and easily dispatched. The real mystery being Castiel and now Crowley. I was cracking up when they were brought into the police station and Sam starts shouting, "they're Jefferson Starships! they're Jefferson Starships!"

I have to say I was surprised the ashes actually worked. Sam and Dean read in Colt's journal that a Phoenix was killed with the gun on a certain day in history. They convince Cass to send them back to get the ashes.
Dean plays cowboy while Sam finds Colt, and tells him a Phoenix will be killed in town. Colt writes in his journal about the Phoneix, because Sam told him that was what it was.
There was a good chance the fire creature wasn't actually a phoenix, but was labeled as such because of what Sam told Colt.
It's a twist I could see happening.

It also seems odd that anybody knew how to kill Eve. It's not as if there are a lot of her 'kind' out there...unless there were equivalent creatures in the past.
Maybe it was a safe bet Phoenix Ash will kill just about anything.

Would make sense, I guess. The only other three I can think of are God, Lucifer, and Death.
I think instead of Lucifer wouldn't in be Arch Angels.

That would cover all four then, and that's assuming Supernatural only has four archangels (if you go by the typical mythology and include Lucifer, that's five; Lucifer, Michael, Uriel, Gabriel, and Raphael, and nevermind the ones like Metatron). Which would mean God is vulnerable, as is Death. And I really doubt either of those two are if Lucifer isn't.
I don't think Uriel was an archangel on Supernatural. They seem to go with the version of roman catholicism in which the only ones mentioned by name are Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael (with Lucifer as a fallen figure).
