BTW, I thought I heard that Prince William even put that T-Mobile video on his Facebook page!

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

Despite me being mostly uninterested in celebrities' or prominent people's lives it was hard to escape this megaevent these days i can't help but notice the huge differences in generation and attitude.

The Queen is very conservative (to put it mildly) but her son has broken every royalty rule possible and her grandson is apparently living a normal life as much as possible. It will be very interesting to see how he will handle himself as the future king.. will he succumb to tradition or will he make his own way more suited to the 21st century?

We certainly have changed much over the last decades but we are ruled by people who refused to change with the times and adapt and would rather endure the critcism and scorn than to change their ways.

I watched the wedding, unexpectedly as I wasn't intenting to. I really enjoyed it and I feel quite warm towards William and Kate, not bad since they were barely on my dradis before.

Thank you so much for posting this, WillsBabe :)

^That's a lovely tradition of laying the bridal bouquet at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

It is, isn't it? I didn't know anything about it until I read about it a couple of days ago. (The whole notion of the tomb of the unknown soldier is interesting and enlightening, too.)

As lots of people have commented, we do tradition/pageantry really well, especially on national occasions. But I don't we think hold a monopoly. I think the French and Italians also do (though they have the break of monarchy to republics). And despite being a 'young' country, in a few centuries I think the US will be a strong contender. I love ceremonies like those at Arlington and think US do them really well. The one monarchical democracy that I think matches us is Japan, and anyone who's been there will know how similar in lots of ways it is to UK (but also very different).

But the U.K. has crown jewels, carriages, and fancy footman uniforms... America can't top that!

I must admit that I enjoy the UK's pagentry and state occassions. I love watching all the polish and dazzle and presence of history. I surprise myself with this because I would never have thought it would be something that interests me. I was captivated by the Queen Mother's funeral and her lying in state.

I have to admit I was impressed by the ceremonial "vigil" part. Keeping it together as you stand vigil over the body of a family member (and former Queen) while the world watches? Can't be easy. Prince Philip was especially impressive, given his age.

Big black cars, motorcades, flashing lights, great uniforms...it's just the modern equivalent.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

Charles served in the RN for quite a while so it's not surprising he prefers that service, like his father before him. William should have worn an RAF uniform to make all three services represented but his new army 'colonelship' was the highest ranking one he could wear.

I thought I saw the Duke of Gloucester wearing the uniform of an Air Commodore or AVM, but I can't find any proof as he's not even on the map as far as royal photogeneity.

I would have respected William more as a "regular guy" if he'd worn the RAF uniform that he serves in alongside his unit mates, rather than that of an honorary rank in one of the socially exclusive Foot Guards regiments. That just makes him seem like a fancy-dressed toff.

^Indeed, considering the wedding was 3 days ago...

I know. That was my two cents worth :) I'm not very big on following up on celebrity lives so it didn't phase me.

I said I was so excited before the wedding occurred. I did not type it today.

Yes, Finn's comment was in reaction to darkshadow, not your quote :)

Oh, I thought it was in response to my comment.

BTW, I found the article below interesting. Some are saying 1) Prince William and Princess Catherine might be visiting California this summer and 2) the might have delayed their honeymoon because they learned of the impending attack on Osama's compound.

After entertaining millions with their wedding, the royal newlyweds are ready to hit Tinseltown.

Before Prince William and his new bride Kate Middleton actually do jet off on their actual honeymoon, they'll be rumored to have hit nearly every country on this planet—including the United States. Hooray for Hollywood!

So is this real-life visit a trip to see their pals David and Victoria Beckham? And did the killing of Osama bin Laden ruin their post-wedding trip?!

Even though he's back to work today, the prince and his new bride will take that break at some point, and they're likely to make a stop in Hollywood this summer in their first overseas visit as a married couple, says royal biographer Andrew Morton in The Morton Report.

They'd have to pencil their wedding guests Posh and Becks into their packed schedule, because these royal kids only have two days to tour the glitzy movie town, says Morton. (Morton wrote the famous biography of Wills' mom, the late Princess Di.)

The twosome, who—in case you've been living under a rock or hiding out in a mansion in Pakistan—were married on Friday in the most magical, fairy tale wedding of all time, ever. They decided to skip an immediate honeymoon—rumored to have been taking place in Kenya, Jordan and even Romania—so Wills could get back to work as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot

Now, there's mounting speculation that they had canceled the trip after a call from their country's prime minister, David Cameron, who had been made aware (in no specific terms) of the impending attack on Osama's mansion in Pakistan.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are now planning a break—still not their honeymoon—together this summer in late June or early July. (Kate did just buy those summer dresses and all.)

The couple will tour Canada, visiting Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Alberta and Northwest Territories, remaining in the country for Canada Day on July 1.

After that, it's California or bust for the duo, whom we're sure will be treated to A-list treatment in the City of Angels

I thought I read on-online that the US didn't tell the UK about the impending attack so I'm not sure if I believe that Will & Kate were warned not to leave the country.

^ Sorry for all the stupid links in the article. Not sure how to take them away (they were from the original source).

BTW, I couldn't resist:

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

that article sounds BS, i read a report saying they decided to postpone the honeymoon weeks back because Palace officials weren't sure the foreign press would play ball and leave them alone like the British press would.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

The official line seems to be that William had to apply for leave and was granted it, but he couldn't take consecutive weeks. He took a week off ahead of the wedding and will get a second week later for the honeymoon. Nice to know that even the queen's grandson can't always get what he wants from his commanding officer, right?

I'm not entirely certain of this, but one of William's commanders (current or former, I couldn't tell) was interviewed by Robin Roberts on the morning of the wedding and he said his squad was sending people to help with the search and rescue efforts in Alabama. It makes me wonder of William had to report to duty to cover for those colleagues who went overseas.
