The most beautiful people in Trek?

Anybody know of Veronica Lake in the '40s? her trademark was her peekaboo hairstyle, long and lush and covering one eye. She cut her hair short for the war effort, and her career evaporated over night.

Oh, and...
Diana Rigg picture galleries :D

Kate, I generally agree with what you're saying, but I think Nana Visitor is a big exception. I was absolutely stunned by how much better she looked from season 3 onwards. I really believe the change between seasons 2 and 3 was like a 'total makeover' that revealed a physical beauty in her that had been hidden very well by her original look.

Her really short, masculine hairstyle and that constricting uniform she wore in the first two seasons had me thinking she was the manliest, least attractive woman ever on Star Trek.

Then simply growing her hair longer and wearing a less stiff, more shapely uniform with an open collar/neck area starting in the third season made a world of difference.

You'd think it wouldn't matter since it's so small, but I believe the Bajoran nose ridge was a huge detriment to her appearance too. It's just so distracting. The pictures people have posted of her out of costume really surprised me too with what a babe they revealed her to be.

I think, my friend, that this means you qualify for one part of one of my previous posts:

If all it takes is a new hairstyle in order to make someone beautiful in your eyes (I don't mean "you" personally - I'm using the generic "you") to find someone beautiful, then I suggest you (again, not you personally ;) ) weren't really paying attention before.

See what I mean?

Not that I never do the same thing - I expect everybody does at times. But when we do...it's because we weren't really paying attention. That's my theory, anyway.

I think that's generalizing a bit, though. Just because I think certain people look better with their hair one way than another doesn't mean I can't think someone is attractive unless their hair is always a specific way. It just highlights some peoples' beauty better than others, but that's not always the case. For example, I didn't think Natalie Portman getting her head shaved for "V for Vendetta" changed my perception of her as having a beautiful face.

It's actually quite simple: a good hairstyle makes the attractive curves of one's face stand out, while camouflaging the less attractive curves. It's also why a different hairstyle can make one look somewhat (or even radically) different. Your 'best' hairstyle all depends on the shape & lines of your face and the color of your skin. That's why a certain hairstyle can make one more or less attractive; it simply shows or hides certain elements in one's face.

It's not that I disagree with either of you, DiSiLLUSION and Too Much - of course different hairstyles and whatnot flatter or don't flatter different people.

I think when we talk about beauty and attractiveness, we are simply not talking about quite the same things. At least they aren't the same thing for me. Finding someone "attractive" or "sexy" or whatever isn't the same thing as saying "she's beautiful." It takes more than a bad hairdo to make a truly beautiful woman less than beautiful - or a truly handsome man less than handsome.

What I mean is, it would take a lot more than a bad hair style to make Diana Rigg, say, or Grace Kelly no longer beautiful. Beauty may only be skin deep, but it goes deeper than a hair style, surely - at least it does for sure in the cases of Diana Rigg and Grace Kelly. They were beautiful. They were beautiful even when they wore fashions that look a little odd now - in fact, some of those fashions manage to not look odd simply because they are being modeled by Grace Kelly and Diana Rigg. They were simply beautiful.

I admit that I never saw either of them with Bajoran nose ridges but...come on, can you seriously imagine that either of them wouldn't still be beautiful?

So let me put it another way, since I seem to be accidentally insulting you when I say that not noticing somebody's beauty until after a fairly minor change (hairstyle or costume, e.g.) means you weren't paying attention - and I really don't intend any insult, I just think that sometimes that's how people's minds work (including my own at times).

The reason they work that way, though, is that people sometimes allow themselves to be distracted from even fairly obvious beauty - and I know I'm a heterosexual female, but I do think Jennifer Lein, for example, was quite obviously beautiful, in an ethereal way, starting with VOY episode #1 right through her entire three years on the show. And the only reason that I can think of that someone didn't notice this is (1) that they simply don't admire ethereal-looking women (but if they don't admire ethereal-looking women, they shouldn't have admired her season 3 look either), or (2) they just didn't notice because they were distracted by the short wig or whatever. She was still beautiful in that wig. She had the same beautiful features and delicate figure...it's just that some people didn't notice her beauty until the wig was gone. She didn't change, but some people's perception of her changed.

From day one its always been William Shatner for me. He was the fodder for this young girl's dreams.....and even tho he has expanded some, he is still my man man!

well....um......Chris Pine is in there too........

I know what you're saying. There's a woman here at work who can only be described politely as homely. But she has a reubinesque figure, wonderful personality, gorgeous red hair and sexy way about her that definitely puts her in the "attractive" column in my book.

Conversely I've known gloriously beautiful women with such horrible personalities that you just wanna run screaming.

Let's just say that I wouldn't mind being trapped in the brig with

Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Riker, Data, Wesley (later seasons), Sisko, Worf, Bashir, Dukat (there's something strangely appealing about the man), Quark, Chakotay, Paris, Kim (season 1), Icheb (older one from Shattered), One the Drone, nuKirk, nuSpock, nuChekov, nuSulu, and most definitely nuMcCoy!

Quark? Really? Hm...OK, he does have his charm, so I can see that, I guess... but 'beautiful' is still stretching it a bit. :vulcan:

Oh, and if you can make up your mind between the DS9 hotties, please vote in my Sexiest DS9 character poll. The results so far show that the overwhelming majority of voters have been straight men.

I thought that he became somewhat bloated looking as he grew older, I don't know why but fat seemed to cling to his face

Individually, or all of them? I would think the latter would be tiring.

And One the Drone? Seriously? :wtf: I liked the character, but physically attractive he was not ... Icheb is as about as far as I can go with the Borg thing. Hugh from TNG had a nice face, but Borg exoplating is not beautiful to me.

The entire male nuCast -- yum. I hadn't even thought about them when I posted in this thread before.

Most beautiful woman goes to Uhura. When I was a little girl I wanted to grow up to be just like her: smart and beautiful.

Best looking guy is Reed. Whatta a tasty little treat he is. Yum,yum!

A few years late to this thread, but I want to add my few cents. I have no opinion on TOS or ENT yet, since I haven't made it to watching those series. (On S6 of Voyager at the moment.)

TNG: I have a crush on Data. I don't think he's physically beautiful, but I love his character.
Captain Picard is striking.
I don't really like the looks of any of the main females. Famke Janssen as Kamala is, of course, absolutely gorgeous.

DS9: Sisko! I've noticed that the only black person getting any attention on these boards is Uhura. What about the men? I love me some beautiful black men. Though Sisko is a bit heavy, especially towards the end, the usually do a pretty good job hiding it with the uniform.
Bashir has that awkward tiny body, but I still find him really appealing.
KIRA NERYS is my girlfriend. The combination of her personality and her good looks. Yum. I like her short hair much better, though.
Vic Fontaine is beautiful.
I found myself having a crush on Gul Dukat for a few seasons and hating myself for it. Am I the only one?
Jadzia's hair is just way too ugly for me. I can't see past it. And she looks gross in her uniform until they switch to the grey. Poor Terry. I do like her in the TOS costume, though.
Oh, and Vedek Bareil, YES PLEASE! Yum.

VOY:
Seven of Nine. Jeri Ryan is such a versatile actress, and I really love the way she plays Seven. I like that her character is not at all concerned with how beautiful she is. I love her brownish outfit. :-D
Tuvok is very attractive. I love Vulcans, but I think he's got such a pretty face. I actually have a friend who dated Tim Russ for a while.
I think Chakotay has a really appealing boyish grin, but he's too bulky for me and I HATE HOW HE ASPIRATES HEAVILY AT THE ENDS OF PHRASES! Just had to get that out. His character is also so alarmist and Riker-esque. And Riker repulses me.
Harry Kim is so freaking adorable I can't handle it.
And I LOVE Kes with her short hair. WHY DO PEOPLE HATE ON THE SHORT HAIR? I think the long hair was Fugly, capital F. Her voice is so gorgeous.
