what characters do you dislike the most?

Major Kira

During the first episode every time she opened her mouth she sounded like a yapping dog.

And yes, I'm well aware of the fact that I stole that statement from the "Make it so" podcast on simplysyndicated.com.

I absolutely cannot stand:

Jadzia Dax
Keiko O'Brien
Ishka
Melora
Bareil
Kira in the first 2 seasons or so, in which she is always having temper tantrums/whinefests about being oppressed by Cardassians

I can tolerate, but still see as a useless waste of screen-time:

Ezri Dax

Jadiza Dax. She quite often comes across as needlessly arrogant, self-aggrandizing, supremely self-absorbed and mean-spirited. Other times, she's tolerable, but that's it - tolerable.

This!:bolian:

I can't stand her. I was glad they offed her in season 6. Ezri is more likeable and interesting. Mainly I dislike Jadzia because she always sounds condescending or sarcastic. I find her quite shallow really.

I can't even remember the difference between Bareil and Shakaar, despite having seen the whole series 3 times through. They are just vague blurs or bajoran blather.

Bareil is the one in the silly robes, Shakaar was the one who is the terrorist that has no personality (No Micheal Collins is he) . So the crossover episode where Mirror Universe Bareil comes over, I kept thinking it was Shakaar.

The only male bajorian who made a impression on me was Li Nalas. Though it seemed that Bajorian Women seem to be good characters as I remember a lot of them, including the ones that only show up once or twice (Though I must admit, if I was the commander, about two weeks in I would give Kira a nice big wheel of real cheese as a gift, and then look at her and said "I figured you would want some cheese with your whine." in the first season. That got toned down and she became much more likable. )

Out of the main characters: Ezri Dax. I think it was a mistake to add her as a main character for season 7, I don't feel she added anything substantial to the series. I'd have preferred if they weren't going to kill Dax that it just returned for just a few episodes (1 or 2) and then they moved on.

Out of the secondary characters - I found Zek annoying. As a character he was weaselly, selfish, greedy, manipulative...pretty much what you expect from a Ferengi politician. All that was fine, it was just his voice...it got very grating after a while if he had a big role in the episode.

Same. Ezri was just another bad idea in a season of bad ideas. I wish they'd have killed Jadzia and the Dax symbiant, that would have had awesome dramatic potential.

Every episode with Zek is a bad one. Plus he highlights one of the problems with trek; when you base a culture around one concept, its best to explore this with ONE individual from that culture. If you dont then the total fallacy of the idea shows through and comes off looking ridiculous and self-defeating.

I started out not liking Nog and liking Jake. But as the show went on, Jake starting being irresponsible and lazy. Nog got all serious and became a hero.

You would of had major issues no matter what, as Terry Farrel put the producers in a bind by not doing S7. (And I found Ezri a lot more watchable then Jazdia)

But the producers had to add a female to the cast to replace J. Dax in some form, as Kira as the only female would be bad for both storylines and for ratings. So they had three options for how to handle it.

1. Upgrade a minor character to main cast - However by the end of season 3 they did not have a female minor cast worth "promoting", as they had killed off a few of them already.

2. Introduce a new character with no connections to the main cast.

3. take the Dax symbiont and put it in another female trill, and make her not the same as J. Dax.

They went with three, and I prefer option 3 to option 2.

per option 1, they could've added Leeta to the main cast for season 7. Lots of awesome storyline possibilities there.

Did they really have to add a female?

Theres the problem, you dont have to make her unlike Jadzia Dax, you have to make her unlike Jadzia, but like a new Dax. I dont think they accomplished this with Ezri, she felt like a totally new character. I liked how in 'Facets' you could see a part of Jadzia Dax in each previous host, thats not the case with Ezri.

Or elevate Kai Winn, the Female Changeling or Kasidy Yates, they actually had important roles to play in season 7.

In fact they probably each had more screen time in season 7 than Jake Sisko, who was a title character!

Which would be?

er, guys I thought it was pretty clear this was sarcasm. Maybe I should've used a wink symbol, but I thought it was obvious, especially with the exaggerated "awesome" adjective.

It'd be like if I said that it would've been "awesome" if they made Morn a regular character.

Leeta was so obviously there as a one-note eye candy character that the idea of her as a regular was just funny to me.

I get it now you put "quotes" round "awesome". But otherwise wouldn't have.

I'm more a Jadzia fan but I thought Ezri was OK. She got the short straw with only one series, but despite that they gave her a lot of screen time.

Ok, I was getting worried you where serious, Leeta had two good points, and that is it.

Actually this suited the character as after several lifetimes she probably thought she knew it all and knew better than most.

I suppose that could have worked, if she had been called on it by the other characters. But, as trekkiebaggio said, a lot of them simply treated her like a goddess.

And I don't get that, especially from Kira, who had suffered a great deal in her life. Wouldn't at some point she'd have had it with Ms. Know It All and knocked her on her *ss? I would have. I'd also like to point out that for someone who'd lived several lifetimes, she acted like a damned spoiled brat quite a bit. Pouting in Trials and Tribblations when she didn't get to go see Koloth for example.

Ezri was a vast improvement.
