Music genres you don't 'get'

Although very few of my friends/work colleagues are into Trek, they can be as passionate and vocal about music as TOS vs TNG. I like to think I have fairly eclectic tastes (from Abba to Zydeco) and can appreciate most music, but know some can be vociferous or just not get some genres. Personally, I find some hardcore jazz a bit 'wtf' and indulgent and classic C&W has never really appealed, but that could be cultural reasons. Curious to know what music genres others don't get and why. Also any mash-ups you think work: for me, I like the Aerosmith(?)/Run DMC 'Walk This Way' as good cross-music pollination.

Heavy metal. It just sounds like noise to me. Any other genre or mashup of genres, but just that or any other derivative like death metal, I can't see the appeal.

I can think of genres I dislike, but I can't think of any I don't "get." Given time, I can see the appeal in just about anything, even if it ultimately doesn't do much for me personally.

I have heard and enjoyed literally every type of music that people have listed so far in this thread--including the music of Sir Michael Tippett. I can see my CDs of his opera The Ice Break and his oratorio A Child of Our Time from where I'm sitting. :p

Oh--and this is the best mash-up I've heard recently: Slipknot vs. Justin Bieber.

Rap - let's face it, we're all going to say this :D I don't want to hear people talking over a drum machine. If you want to write poetry, just write poetry, but don't write some forced child level rhymes and stick it over a drum machine and stolen sample of a real song and call it music.
Metalcore - just a cheap watered down version of good metal.

Probably a million more that I've repressed so deeply into my mind that I can't recall them right now.

Hip-Hop can be lyrically clever and yes, the beats have to be good. I strongly recommend checking out De la Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising.

Rap
Whiny boy bands
Country/Western
Anything where the singer's voice is so electronically processed that it could be my dog singing and make no difference.
Yanni.

I can't say there's any I don't "get" - I do have a very eclectic music collection. Lately I'm just listening to a lot of pop hits from the 70s and Funk/Soul music.

Can't say I'm a big fan of Country-Western, but I can see the appeal.

I like some of pretty much every genre of "popular" music, and I usually "get" what people like about them even if I don't myself. I personally don't like pop songs (including country) that sound deliberately produced and packaged for commercial trends. I don't like any detectible Auto-Tune. I don't like a lot of post-Parker avant jazz, I like jazz with melodies. I don't like most "progressive" or "art" rock because it took all the fun and humor out of rock and roll and made it bloated and self-important. I don't like dub reggae, again with the melody. I like bluegrass in doses but most of it doesn't have enough bottom for me to really get in to.

I like every kind of music, more or less. Classic jazz, current dance/pop music and some of contemporary C&W (which is way different from the country music I grew up with in my parents home, although I like some particular older artists) are what I tend toward lately.

It's not meant for the casual listener. Death Metal is an avant-garde sound that I enjoy when I'm PO'd.
Conversely I can't understand why some people like Katy Perry.

I can totally understand why people like Katy Perry. I just don't understand why they like her music too. :D
